I'd like to make a suggestion.

03-lmfao I second the motion!

I'm in favor of the motion.

You have just reiterated the suggestion made by Mayor Larry Langford when he talked of building the MPF downtown. He wanted to turn the area into a multi-use city park with new attractions.

The city has been in favor of demolishing Legion Field since the 1990s, but as long as there is no suitable replacement , it remains the "only game in town" for what it provides. Perhaps it should be renamed "RAPS" Field. The city is not going to build a replacement in kind - open air big stadium - so unless UAB can build its OCS, or the MPF somehow is built, there will be no change - only "renovations" in place.

Don't count on it...He's a "paper tiger." Legion Field is the only "bargaining chip" he has. When I heard him say on radio that "Junior" is "misunderstood" & that he wasn't responsible when the OCS project got "monkey-wrenched", the nausea has yet to completely leave my system. Bet he has a T-Shirt on under his suit that reads, "Property of the University Of Alabama."

He is not unfamiliar with the skyboxes of the stadium to the west of Bham.

They say "jump", he asks "how high."

Something needs to be done. Like I stated earlier either here or elsewhere, had Langford kept his nose clean, that damn MPF would have been under construction long before now, he was locked and loaded on this project. I feel the current regime is just using the dome now as a stall tactic, a way to appease the pro-MPF masses by occasionally saying in public that it will get done, but not having a clue as to when.

The longer it takes, the greater the disenchantment will be by the overall public, the mere mention of it will draw a myriad of reactions ranging from 03-pissed03-lmfao to 03-yawn01-wingedeagle

RE: Mayor Bell on Legion Field
I don't know Mayor Bell personally, but I do know from living in the city for many decades, the city has NEVER had a mayor (or a Commissioner, before that) who confronted UA or its BOT on any measure, especially Legion Field. It has always been a "how high" relationship with the possible (brief) exception of Langford.

First let me say, I dont know what Mayor Bell is thinking when he speaks, however being the Mayor of Birmingham you have to know the politics of the state and region.

Mayor Bell must know what the powers to be whether political, business or others think about Birmingham.
Quick when you say NY, LA, ATL or Philly do any the surrounding cities or counties of those areas come to mind, well if the answer is no, then you have your answer, as to why the surrounding cities and counties of this region want to keep Birmingham in check...

Which would explain why he's so chummy with this city's enemies, namely "junior", for all the good it's done..."United for the good of the city", my a**!

We'll Matrix the power base is what it is here in Alabama and it's very resistant to change. Until certain thing change in this state, dealing with that power base will all ways be a catch 22.

RE: Mayor Bell on Legion Field
"There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one's own safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn't, but if he was sane, he had to fly them. If he flew them, he was crazy and didn't have to; but if he didn't want to, he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle.

"That's some catch, that Catch-22," he observed.

"It's the best there is," Doc Daneeka agreed."

Or a Catch-18.

More like resistant to any kind of progress that they're not the controlling interest of. But, I get what you're saying, though.
