Vaughn Williams to be inducted...
into the UALR Hall of Fame. His coach, Ron Kestenbaum, should be next.

How many here remember seeing Vaughn play other than you and me MJS? My guess is not many!

He may have been. I'm not certain whether he finished his career in 1982 or 1983. If it was in 1983, then he would have played in that game.

RE: Vaughn Williams to be inducted...
Yes, Vaughn Williams was on that 1982-83 team that lost to Georgia Southern. Eric Hightower shoved Dexter Young to the floor before making the game-winner that sent UALR to no postseason at all. The snub from the NIT still bothers me to this day. By the way, I was the SID at UALR from 1982-85 (I was there for Mike Newell's first year and Ron Kestenbaum's last) and campaigned non-stop to help UALR get into the NIT but to no avail. The NIT committee turned us away because of our schedule and "lack of history." I believe we may have done some damage had we made the NCAA tournament in 1983. Williams, Jimmy Lampley and Donald Newman could have started for most any Division I school and Kestenbaum got the most out of them.

For those who don't know, Mr. Williams scored 1237 points in his Trojan career, and he is the career leader in assists and steals - by a good margin. Easily one of our all-time greats.

We saw him at the letterman recognition last year. I had intended to go speak to him in the 2nd half, but he evidently left after halftime.

I saw him, although I was about 5 years old at the time.
