Old Dominion checks in at #27 giving the MAC 6!
Would have liked to get ODU as #14 football and hoops playing member. CUSA travel is going to eat up alot of their athletic budget. The Ohio teams especailly OU are a short distance away and Buffalo is a 2 hour at most plane ride into a major market.
Would also help open up VA for MAC recruiting which could have been a real boon for the MAC East.
What should've happened is that ODU & George Mason should have gone EIWA with Hostra & Binghamton. This would've made for ideal traveling partners, all east of the Appalachains. Instead, we're the only school this side of the mountains.

Yup. See post #6 above. Except I think you should join GMU in the EWL. EIWA is already too big and too spread apart.
EWL has 7 teams. Adding ODU to make it 8 makes sense on so many levels, and it works for every team and conference involved.

While I agree with the numbers, the profiles of the EWL schools is much different than it was 3 years ago. Back then you had Pitt & WVU. Now it's just a hodge podge of PSAC schools. EIWA would put us in with Army, Navy, & The Ivy's. That's a much better sell to the AD.

I understand your opinion, hopefully the MAC can absorb B12 Wrestling(a desire expressed by the OU Wrestling HC); that would add WVA as a Wrestling affiliate who would be an easy trip for ODU. Being able to host programs the stature of Oklahoma, Ok St & Iowa St would also be a big plus for ODU Wrestling and local interest in the program.

I can see that. But still, the far-flung MAC (and the 9th team to boot) versus being the 8th team along w/ rival GMU in the geographically closer EWL? And the EWL does have respectable programs.
There's talk of UMBC adding wrestling, if the EWL could get them and American, that would be a stout conference too.

American is not leaving the EIWA. Their academic profile & geography suits them in that conference. I'm not arguing that the EWL isn't viable. They have very competitive teams. But they're not a realistic destination for ODU. EIWA makes the most sense - > half the schools in, or close to, major markets & airports.

It would become the WAC of the east!
Actually EIWA w/ divisions is what you want. Would probably work for wrestling better than most other sports. You could have duals champ w/o a full round-robin, and you can have a tournament for individual champs.
