Obviously the school wouldn't want exclusivity, but the apparel company would, or at least should. Basically Nike would be saying:

"We'll pick up the tab for your athletic apparel if you let us brand it with our logo and sell all your gear through our distribution network. And by the way, since we are paying you, nobody else can brand your gear."
