Coach Walker
I figured since nobody else started the thread I would. If you didn't know by now, longtime track coach and ETSU alum Dave Walker passed away. Other than Doc, there's probably nobody else in the world that bled blue and gold the way Coach Walker did. He believed in ETSU for over 50 years, as a student athlete, as a coach and late in life, as a fan. He put ETSU track literally on the map, coached a Boston Marathon winner (who is running this year), the Irish Brigade was probably his greatest accomplishment to go along with one heck of an indoor meet over the years. He didn't put up with a lot of crap, he was hard on his runners, but he got the best out of them and he would've given the shirt off of his back if it wasn't an NCAA violation. One of the regrets I have doing what I did at ETSU was that I didn't work to spend more time getting stories out of the man. He's as big a part of the history of ETSU athletics as anyone out there. He's a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame as well as ETSU's. At 83 years old, he leaves a legacy of loyalty, success and honor at ETSU, and the university will forever owe this man for his dedication to a place that most people consider a stepping stone to greater things. For him, ETSU was greater things, maybe the greatest thing.
