Le Moyne-Owen during season?
I imagine that this has been covered on this board at some point.

But, L O during season. Does this count on our record? Is this a rpi killer?

counts in record, doesn't count in the RPI calculation.

RE: Le Moyne-Owen during season?
They chose to play Baylor in a scrimmage so they could only have one more exhibition (CBU). Lemoyne is now a reg season game against a D2 team. No real issue with it since we have a tough enough schedule.

RE: Le Moyne-Owen during season?
Since we played Baylor in a closed scrimmage before the season we were only allowed one exhibition (CBU). Pastner honored his commitment to play Lemoyne Owen since it's a buy game for them that makes up a good chunk of their athletic budget. Therefore the only other option was to play them regular season.

Unless we lose, in which they apply some penalty in the formula.

Haven't looked it up- but am pretty sure lots of D1 teams have a game against a D2 team during the season.

I thought it doesn't count either way?

"RPI data includes games against Division I schools only."

Yes, a loss counts. They apply it in a special way in order to keep a DIVII teams record from helping the DIVI's SOS. (It may look bad to lose to a DIV II team, but if that DIV II team had a 25-2 record, it would mathematically cause the DIV I team who lost to likely get a nice bump in the SOS part of their RPI due to applying a 25-2 record to it.

I believe what they do is to take the home-neutral-away loss as normal. But then they only apply the DIV II team's record, and their opponents records, against only DIV I teams, and apply that to the DIV I team's rpi. Since DIV II teams likely have an abysmal record versus DIV I, that would hurt the DIV I teams RPI.

I will worry about that should the Magicians beat MEMPHIS on Saturday.

Kudos to Pastner for honoring the commitment to play a local team. THe buy money will definitely help LMO.

There are several teams doing the same thing. At least we arent playing St Katherine like San Diego State and Utah chose to do. San Diego State won by 80something

Yep...this is Pastner keeping his word...someone said the LO men's basketball budget gets 25% of it's money from playing Memphis...since we played Baylor as a scrimmage, we have LO in the regular season.

I'm fine with that.

Since they're local and depend on this money, I'm totally OK with honoring that commitment. In fact, I think I would be more upset if they didn't.

I'm good with this as well.

Pastner and the Tigers giving back to the community in a meaningful way. That's never a bad idea. As others have said, it won't hurt our RPI. I'm glad they are honoring the commitment.

Unless, of course, we lose.

Why Are We Playing Lemoyne-Owen in the Regular Season
Pre season exhibitions with CBS and LOC are super ideas. But why a January date? Does it even count ? Did a D1 game fall through ?

It will actually help the RPI, as opposed to playing a buy-game against a 200+ RPI. A game against an RPI 200+ would lower our RPI, and this game will have no effect.

It's gaming the system so to speak, and there was an article put out last March about how New Mexico probably got into the dance about Maryland because they played 2 D2 schools and Maryland played 2 200+ RPI D1 schools.

I hope it'll be a chance to give our bench some serious minutes in a game situation. Would love to see big Dom and Iverson side by side for about 12 minutes.

It is obvious to me that a preseason scrimmage against a top 25 team is better preparation than a game against lemoyne owen.

I think it is a smart trade and a nice pay day from CBU and LO. I just hope we switch out with CBU next year. What a disaster if we lost though.
