RE: Public statement by McGee?
McGee will always have a career in used car sales. LOL
And UAB will look bad on his record if the next guy comes in and wins.

if the rumors are true about his dating life, that might have been the reason.
Didn't seem to stop Petrino from finding a gig, but then maybe we're more ruthless and cynical than we were 20 years ago.

I held my tongue on this board because I didn't want ruffle any feathers. He lied to the media saying that Coach Sigler resigned. He fired him just so that he could hire his friend to coach the same position. That moved hurt in the long run. We lost a big time receiver that ended up going to Clemson. The high school coaches in the city respect Coach Sig, and they didn't like how he was treated.
He has been quoted saying that he for Coach Sig because he could learn the offense. That right there didn't make sense. Patrick Hearn and Jackie Williams had a great year. And the receiving corp as a unit was one of the bright spots on the team.
When he kicked Jackie Williams off the team, that was when I wanted to see him escorted out of Birmingham forever. He basically threw a kid away. He thought that Humphrey would come in and there would be no drop off.
He didn't care about the team, the community, only himself.
No insider but I saw through this plus he kicked an sec caliber WR off for an unexplained reason. McGee could've had success his mindset seemed way off.
Wonder why he isn't on the HC short list could recruit Mobile well, coach knows UAB shortcomings.
being an SEC caliber player should not be considered if you kick a player off the team.
Whatever, you don't fire a coach without reason then turn right around and kick off the two best WR's for the upcoming season and expect an true fan not to see pass that crap.

RE: Public statement by McGee?
I think his point is that if a player needs to be kicked off a team, his talent level should be irrelevant.
No, I'm not saying that either of said Williams should have been kicked off the team.

Most of the team probably agrees with you. I can tell JP does. Maybe McGee did them a favor by not wasting their time.
Still no official release from the athletic department. I guess the cat's out of the bag.

UAB is doing the right thing, which is usually what they do. Taking the high road and moving on.

So we've taken the first step and released the six early signees pending they want to leave?

Many times the recruits release is contingent upon a face to face meeting with the new coach.

Not my the point I was taking. I meant that we will not get into a war of words with anyone.. McGee is gone and we will move forward.

RE: Public statement by McGee?
When McGee didn't embrace the fear the 'stache hype, I knew he wasn't going to be the guy to promote the program like we needed the HC to do. If he had won and moved on, it'd have been fine. Too bad for both of us it didn't work out.

Well, he's getting a pay raise (From $550,000 to $650,000) to leave, and we are scrambling around trying to find a coach less than 3 weeks from National Signing Day.

Yep, but he already had an F.......of course, he might of gotten up to a D-minus, if he had hung around for another year.

I'm glad he didn't. Wish he'd have followed Petrino to WKU instead of Brohm and Helton.

He's a loser and a quitter now. He could have just been a loser.

RE: Public statement by McGee?
Can't help but wonder just how much damage this has done to an already eroded and disenchanted fan base? All those "Caravan" speaking/Q&A engagements, all of that "good will" I thought he was building on with all concerned, the "Play Your Part" campaigns, all the stuff that man was in the midst of, & he just flushed it. If this isn't tantamount to betrayal, I don't know what is. I've a number of people approach me out of nowhere to let me know what they thought of this man and his apparent disregard for the program and the players in general...Although in theory, McGee may have "done UAB a favor" by leaving (albeit in classic Petrino-esque fashion), his actions may have caused irreparable damage to the program and fan psyche. No, I don't fault Mackin about this at all, McGee had a lot of us fooled...Count me among them...The next man that gets hired is going to have to have the same essence as the "Preacher" in "Pale Rider"...Like my saying this or not, UAB Football is really up against it now...
