Orgeron...yay or nay?
...I would kinda like to see it, as he's obviously a 'mover and shaker', but... was mediocre at best at Ole Miss... but would seem to at least be a 'name hire'...and a great recruiter, no?

Of course, I'm sure there's some 'baggage' he has, but I'm not that aware of anything... weird how there's so many FB coaches with issues... if I didn't know better, I'd say it was a somewhat 'swarthy' profession... 03-drunk

Orgeron is like Niblett, an obviously good coach but a questionable fit for the UAB situation.

Not even close Orgeron has been a college head coach, this year's Pac 12 COY, a great recruiter and defensive mind. Nesblett at this point is a good high school coach.

I wouldn't mind Orgeron.

...there's some question marks, for sure... I think when he took over for Kiffin at SC, the team responded well...but that is a 'temporary deal', and was kind of a 'reset' for them...if he would have somehow been retained as USC's HC for 2014, not sure if that enthusiasm would have still been at that level after spring practice.

...overall, I'd be good with it... I think his recruiting is pretty solid, and heck, he's from the region, more or less... and we can get probably get another LSU game! 03-drunk03-lmfao

Orgeron at Ole Miss was angry and dismissive of players. Orgeron at USC was enjoying himself and worked with the players.

Personally, I think the Ole Miss experience changed him for the better. If UAB can get him, he'll produce a winner.

We could do a helluva lot worse. I don't know that I'm an enthusiastic cheerleader for the idea, but I wouldn't blackball it either.

I suspect he'd want money on the very high end of what we can afford, and I'm not sure we could pay that and still have a budget for the sort of assistants he'd want. I could be wrong, if he wants back into a HC position badly enough, maybe we could deal.

I think it would be a huge get, and I'm all for it. I think he's a much better coach now than he was when he was at UAB. He's a great recruiter, and I'm not sure we could manage a bigger name.

Ding, Ding, Ding! We have a winner here.
He was waaaaaay out of place in William Faulknerville........picked a bunch of fights while there (too much Red Bull). Totally different at USC......players loved him. We all know he can recruit and coach. I would not mind him at all.

...exactly. And he was shown a LOT of 'love' or whatever from the press when he got USC rolling a bit... a 'name' hire, good recruiter, and should have enough connections within the coaching community to put together a decent staff... AND attending the coaches's radio show would be pretty entertaining as well! 03-lmfao

I would also love to get him here, but I feel that it would never happen. I'm sure Orgeron could get paid better somewhere else and has more attractive jobs to choose from than here at UAB. I believe that Houston Nutt really wants to be here though and would love for him to coach here. I'd love either Orgeron or Nutt, to be honest, but Nutt would be more of a possibility.

He turned around a USC team that was sinking like the titanic due to a coach with similar faults as McGee. I would give him a chance!

Fortunately for us, the way he quit at USC knocked his stock down a good bit.

Orgeron would bring excitement to UAB football...it could get the fans out to the stadium...and he's a very good recruiter.

If UAB can get him, he'd be the best pick.

As much as I would love to see it, I have a feeling coach O will cost to much. He is the type of guy we should go after once the program is more sucessful. Most know the word fiscal responsibility will come from the BOT again. Right now, we need a bargain. Just because McGee made 500K doesn't mean the next guy has to make the same. We need a lower level head coach who will be happy with less and some incentives to make his salary competitive.
