I have been a critic of our lack of three point production. Yes the percentage is good, but we don't take enough, with apologies to Bobby Vint, who I think is still living in the Eddie Sutton pre shot clock era when it comes to that subject.
And the reason is the same it's always been. Our offense doesn't set good screens for our three point shooters to give them good shots. It is obviously not a high priority with us. For the most part, our three point shooters don't have quick releases, so you need them coming off double screens, etc., but our offense isn't built to do that.
Our offense is a 1950's offense playing in a 2014 world. Yes you'll win games, but they'll always be close, and you'll lose some of those close games because you can't win them all. You need to have games where you have big leads and no chance of losing in the last ten minutes or so. We will hardly ever see that except when playing a Grambling or a D2 team. If you're playing against a set defense every possession, which is our M.O., you'll never win a game that doesn't go down to the wire.
Of course close games are exciting, so I guess from standpoint, we're always going to have exciting games when we win. If the other team gets hot, we could get blown out, but if they don't we win close. So be it.
