Last year the retail price was $455 per strip for the sold out tournament (even for the worst seat in the house). Now it only costs $180 for the 400 level and $255 for the 200 level.
If St. Johns doesn't get better soon...I can't see the Dolans keeping them around for the length of the contract.

Dude, let MSG go.
There has always been such unhealthy Big East envy coming from the ACC... you witnessed this for 33 years... it's psychotic... and I guess it even affects new ACC members too. If the Big East blows, then let us wither and die mercifully... then clean the cobwebs from the corners of MSG and move in... just remember to light a candle every year on our birthday*... jeesh...

By the way, I've upset the football-to-Big-East ratio by posting here on this thread... it was 13:1... now at 13:2, I expect this thread to be locked. Or another Big East fan will be banned like Redman...

The Big East fanbase most likely to pack the house is the furthest school away.

Really can't see Creighton consistently bringing more than 2k fans to the tourney every year. It is a huge time and $$$ commitment.

There will be 3-4K Creighton fans there this year. We purchased more all session tickets than Syracuse did last year. I agree though, although we travel well, this will probably be the most we will ever bring. On average, I can see us bringing 1-2K yearly which isn't too shabby for being the farthest away from NY.

Ofcourse you did...last year each school (16) had an equal amount. This year only 10 teams means more officially for each school. I can safely say you won't come close to putting the same amount of fans in MSG as Cuse did...but Omaha is about 1000 miles away vs 250 miles and you guys are actually a great traveling fan base.

Shouldnt the price be lower this year since there are less games?

Xavier has a very good following as well. The Big East will be OK, but think their TV Media contract will be more in line with others conferences as the AAC. Not saying it will be equal but closer, meaning the AAC could go up and the Big East could stay the same or more likely go down.

Without UConn, Syracuse, Notre Dame, and Pitt the conference is missing a core group of schools that helped fill up MSG. The old Big East was a monster while the new Big East is just another good league. College basketball has about 10 good multiple bid level leagues which makes things more exciting.

The A-10 should still be good for 2-3 bids, and the WCC should score a second bid more often than not.

There is that to contend with - only 9 games for a 10-team tournament. The Big East could go up to 12 without having to add an extra day, assuming there are no double byes.

It always good for a laugh, your relentless obsession with the BE and the tournament at Madison Square Garden. You can spin things all you want and speculate all you want, but it doesn't change a darn thing. The facts remain the same, the BE tournament will remain for years at MSG, and Syracuse will be playing 1000 miles from home in Greensboro. You're becoming kind of pathetic with your refusal to let go. It's time to come to grips with the facts, and embrace your new home

It seems incredible now, but in 1976 the Syracuse HC left to take the job at Tulane. That's how Boeheim got the job in the first place.

This is true as crazy as it sounds, and SU was just coming off a final 4 a couple years earlier. But I heard that the old HC was in some sort of trouble and that's why he scurried down to Tulane. Syracuse was not as big a brand as it is now. And coaches didn't make anywhere near the money they do now. I think Boeheim said that he made less than $30,000 his first year coaching in the 1970's.

He left one season removed from the Final Four (75). Roosevelt Bouie and Louis Orr were Boeheim's first two recruits. Bouie was probably the equivalent of a mid 4 star recruit and Louis Orr was a 2 star sleeper. Both played professionally.
The old coach Roy Danforth was from Southern Mississippi and was kind of a fish out of the water in Central NY. As Cuseroc stated the money wasn't huge back then. I think Boeheim's first year (76-77) he made $28k...which in today's money is a little over $100k. My understanding Roy Danforth left just to get back to his home area. And yes, he (Danforth) felt Tulane was a good opportunity. Tulane back in the mid 70s was considered about the same brand wise as Cuse. I never heard he left due to being in trouble.

Yeah, but I wouldn't count on that as a typical year. But they're definitely in the conversation with the P5, Big East, MWC and AAC in any given year. (As long as conference musical chairs is done for a while. If the MAC grabs UMass and the Big East takes 2, the A-10 is obviously shakier.)
