They've dumped the seating requirements, and pretty much require just hotel space at his point. Now many schools will move games to minor league stadiums to increase their profit potential, but I don't think its a requirement.

Heck a couple years ago Cal hosted despite not having standing lights on their baseball field. They had to create a rule where games could be suspended if it got too dark to see, but they still managed to play the regional.

If Troy wanted to host...I think Hotel space is the only thing in their way.

Hotels isn't a big deal. There's several in Troy and with Montgomery 40 mins away it's more than enough.

I can name 8 hotels off the top of my head in Troy.

Our senior All-American DH, Matt Shortall, came from Tulane. Wonder why he transferred. Any idea?

Being 30 miles from UT gives TXST almost no chance to host a regional thats just the way it goes.

Cajuns hosted in 2000 as a #2, but that was the last time. It's tough with a perennial top 5 team hosting 60 miles down the road every year.

Not to mention that any time an SBC team makes the tourney, they are almost always sent to the nearby AQ school. South went to Starkville. Troy went to Talahassee Cajuns went to Baton Rouge.

If Texas State goes this year, you can almost go ahead and guarantee the trip would be to Austin.

Its a little different in Jonesboro, as I don't know a single ASU fan who would object to being sent to Fayetteville for a Regional...but that's because of other issues.

You guys will be impressed I think by our baseball facility. It holds somewhere around 3800 and is really a nice place. Baseball wise it probably will be one of the nicer stadiums in the Sun Belt. It makes up for our basketball facility which probably will be one of the worst in the Sun Belt.

Hold the phone. TXST was projected to host a regional in 2010 (I think it was) when our RPI was somewhere between 15-20 but then went on a losing streak and messed that all up. Now, can we think of what series they lost that finalized the killing of their chances there? Um...yeah.... UTA. 03-banghead

Aww shucks.

As for UT-Austin hosting, they'd have to make the NCAA's first, which hasn't been the case the last two years.

We had a RPI of 23 at one point in the season near the end. 35 might have been the final RPI. I didn't keep tract of it closely.

No you did not. Troy's peak RPI was 29, three weeks before the end of the regular season. Troy's RPI at NCAA selection time was 40.

Meanwhile, South Alabama's RPI at NCAA selection time was 17 and Louisiana was 22. Florida Atlantic was 27.

Bump

We had the #1 seed last year.

Not in your regional.

Of course not... When has USA done that?

Like I said Troy won't host due to it's facilities and city. It don't matter if we went undefeated.

There are many creative ways to bid (and receive) a host regional if your campus facilities are not up to par. Facilities are not preventing Troy from hosting (unless your leaders lack that creativity). Troy simply has never had the resume (requisite on field performance) to host.

The NCAA Selection process for determining hosts has changed dramatically in the past 15 years. If Troy legitimately had a #1 seed squad, they could work something creative as far as facilities are concerned and the NCAA would reward them. Geography and the # of regionals within a geographical area is still a consideration, but this has become more lax in recent years ... with the emphasis towards rewarding the Top 16 seeds (#1 seeds).
