Its official WKU's new Head Coach or will by TOmorrow...
@footballscoop: At Western Kentucky sources tell us the Jeff Brohm will be the new head coach http://t.co/sNnVtycOD5

Great hire and should keep a lot of our recruits on board! #BrohmsAway

The only draw back to this hire is you better hope Petrino is in it for the long haul at Louisville, which considering the path he's taken to get back, you'd hope he would be, but the guy is still a snake. If the SEC comes calling for him in 3-5 years and Brohm has had success at Western, I can't see how Brohm isn't shortlist to replace Petrino.

Honestly, being in the G5 of FBS, I don't expect a coach to last more than 3-4 years if he's any good. If he's here longer, it means we're either losing or mediocre. If Brohm is offered by Louisville in 3-5 years, that means WKU was successful during that timeframe, and I'm OK with that.

I understand that Brohm was a major player in recruiting as well as having the team's respect. And if he does leave within 3-5, he must have been doing well at WKU - so not bad for a first HC gig. I cannot be upset with that.

Seriously? We lost our own Alum after 3 seasons in WT.....I have fingers crossed Brohm will be here for 1 or 2 seasons...Not everyone is like MTSU to where no one wants your head guy or he is to old to be HC anywhere else..MTSU is about the only school in todays college athletic world that keep coaches 10+ years....To me that just speaks of average...I would rather be known as a school that produces as a stepping stone for head coachs vs settling on average....

I don't think Brohm is a hot enough name that he'll be one and done, or really even two years, unless you guys win double digit games.

Regarding our coaches, Stock has turned down two jobs, so you can take that theory and shove it. Kermit I'd give you, though on his recent uupswing he was given a long look by someone(Ole Miss? Miss State? Don't recall) and Insell isn't going anywhere.

On top of all of that, Kermit is the only one of the three that has been in Murfreesboro for ten years, let alone "10+" and Kermit is also the only one of the three that's even close to "settling on average" and he's been much better the past few years.

Brohm seems like a good hire, so congratulations. It will give you guys the continuity you need to continue your development path. I'm looking forward to being in the East with you. I think we're going to have some dandy games over the next few years.

It seems like WKU is the minor-league/feeder school for Louisville... Supposedly Jurich was the guy who got Petrino the job at WKU in the first place, now a Brohm will be running the show.

It just perplexes me.

God, how true is that? Right now we're lucky to have one of the few coaches still really excelling in a G-5 conference without any seeming desire to move on from his post, but I get the cold sweats whenever I think of what happens after he decides to retire. It's a damned if you do and damned if you don't venture, you want success but too much of it guarantees your HC is gone in a few years and you're starting over. The only thing worse is to have a HC no one wants.

I do think the past few years have been undeservedly rough on WKU in general, with a few coaches snatched up earlier than they probably would have normally due to emergency coaching vacancies.

well you could be ark state and lose one every year!

i think willie t would have been here at least another year but the perfect opening happened. for his family.

we all knew petrino was short haul but worth it. if brohm turns out good we know he's gone.

it's the nature of where we fit in the pecking order. we don't need message board stephen hawkings (cough cough pikapp) to inform us someone with success will leave.....we've been through it too many times in hoops. we get it.

we are in a unique situation with the best basketball coach in the sunbelt (will be the best coach in cusa the first day we become legit) due to his age/family ties. very unique but still no guarantee we won't lose him.

I think you're a bit confused, this has been a story for a few days, I guess really longer than that as in reality as soon as Strong to Texas rumors started there were whispers of "what if..." regarding Petrino, this is the first I've posted on the matter.

Nevermind the four or five WKU related threads on the first two pages I haven't commented on at all, but hey man, don't let facts stand in the way of a zinger...

First of all, I only made the comment based on the fact that it is a bit of a unique situation. If it weren't for the fact that Brohm played at Louisville AND his mentor is now there and Petrino is a man that in a thirty year career has never stayed in one place longer than four years, I think the circumstances are even more dicey than the normal situation of a G5 school hiring a "name assistant". I will grant you that I did say 3-5 years and five years should be plenty of time for him to build a resume to go elsewhere, even if it's not being Petrino's successor at Louisville, but if BP were to leave Louisville after one or two years(I can't imagine he does if he ever wants to step foot within 100 miles of the city again, but what if Florida makes a change after the upcoming season, his name will inevitably come up) I'd be more nervous about losing Brohm than in a normal set of circumstances...that's all I was really saying.

And I'm looking forward to the second biggest basketball legend in Sun Belt history coming to CUSA as well, just a shame we couldn't have had Tony Mitchell in the conference too...

Jurich will be looking a lot higher than Brohm in 3 or 4 years, that is a given..UofL has money everywhere and will go after bigger names when Petrino moves on to Atlanta I mean Florida...not worried about losing Brohm to UofL, would just be another school not know at this time down the line we would lose Brohm too..I am just hoping for 2 successful seasons with Brohm at the helm...

I agree that he'll be looking higher, however, there I believe there is a bit of a disconnect between perception and reality of how good that job is even from their administration(especially from their fans who think it's a top ten gig). That doesn'tnnecessarily mean they won't be able to do better than Brohm, but I do expect he'd be on the radar and I expect their first few choices to be unrealistic, odds are they still find someone with better resume, but not definitely.

Yep! This is almost a guarantee. Regardless, if Jeff is successful and continues to move up through the HC ranks, he will always be on UofL's radar. That is a no brainer. Born and raised in Louisville and star QB at UofL.

But... I hope he really tears it up at WKU! Just win baby!
