Michigan hires OC Nussmeier away from Alabama

SEC collapse imminent... I kid of course, but this is very good news for Michigan. My home board and others seem to be extremely pleased with this news.

Generally speaking I'm still against the arms race with coaching salaries.

1. Nick likes to rotate coordinators to match incoming personnel.

2. Most top coaches also like this because it expands their information network thereby expanding their perceived sphere of influence.

3. It also helps keep things from going stale and it might be argued that Alabama got less than a maximum effort offensively this year considering the talent at their disposal.

4. Did you see their upcoming tailback Henry in the Sugar Bowl? I've been around a long time and have watched Bo Jackson, Brent Fullwood, Joe Cribbs, James Brooks, William Andrews, Cadillac Williams, and Ronnie Brown all run the ball for Auburn. I saw Herschel Walker play every year he was at Georgia. Add in all of the other great backs for the SEC over the last 5 decades and I am telling you I've never seen anything like this guy. He's huge, he's fast, and he has a long stride. I strongly suspect that Alabama is going to design their offense around him for the next couple of years.

Interesting name mentioned for #Bama OC vacancy by Phil Savage (@SeniorBowlPhil): Rick Neuheisel... MHB & P12Net wouldn't be same w/o him.

Even more fun speculation...

Possibility of Kiffin to Bama is very real. Saban inquired about Kiffin when he got job in 07. Kiffin just spent 8 days in Tuscaloosa.

If Saban hires Kiffin, CFB is just a big reality show that @finebaum is directing.

Great move for UM. I really don't think he will be there for very long (2-3 years ), but this should work out pretty well.

I am too, there is something unseemly about a college coach at a state tax supported institution making milllions, something has gone wrong in our society when a coach makes more than professors and college presidents, the very people who educate and train a lot of the nations leaders of tommorrow

It better work for UM and more importantly, Hoke. I have a feeling that UM fans are tired of being behind OSU, or even more important, MSU. Barely beating Akron and UConn really showed where they are now.

Hoke isn't a coach guys, he recruits, he's the face of Michigan, but do you once ever see him with a headset on his head? Yelling at players? The have an ex nfl defensive assistant and have a successful OC... The AD runs the show, not Hoke.

There were rumors that Saban and Nussmeier didn't get along. Still, I don't remember the last time Saban lost an assistant to a lateral move.

This hire was necessary for Hoke, who finds himself on the hot seat already. Michigan fans are longing for the days of a pro-style offense and a power running game.

So who will it be to get fired first next year between Hoke or Muschamp. I go with Muschamp. With another mediocre season, UF can't afford to fall behind any further in the SEC ranks.

Bama radio guy Eli Gold talks Doug Nussmeier with Michigan radio guys. Good listen about Alabama and Saban in general.
