Honest question, Why is Marshall's schedule so weak, why no good OOC programs?

Why do you play 4 non D-1 basketball games?

That's not the question. Football is way more important to ECU than basketball, besides we played Duke and NC State this year.

It wasn't supposed to be this bad. Ohio has been above average recently, but loses mostly everybody. When we signed the deal with Miami, they were still respectable. Akron was supposed to be our really bad opponent. And our fourth game was originally supposed to be Louisville at home. We allowed Louisville a couple extra years. They're still coming here in 2015 I believe, but they would have only had 5 home games next year. We allowed them to come later, and also picked up a game vs UL in basketball and some extra cash as well if I remember right.

So instead of
bad FCS URI
@ bad FBS Miami
@ bad FBS Akron
average FBS Ohio

it was supposed to be
@ average FBS Miami
@ bad FBS Akron
average FBS Ohio
ranked FBS Louisville

These games against Akron, Miami Oh, and Ohio were all scheduled to appease a large portion of Marshall fans who were complaining about not being able to travel to away games.. They really serve no need now as the new CUSA is much more regionally friendly to traveling fans

I'm going to call you the "Broken English Record". You speak in broken English, and you just repeat the same thing over and over like a broken record.

Ask Hank. He's the one that brought this season up and mentioned me by name in his first post. He's the Ahole. For people not to want me to post I'm referenced in just about every thread, half of which I wouldn't even bother with. Then if I don't respond people are like where is he or what not. It's no win and then you try to blame me and cry to mommy.

Let's see a little SJ magic. This is the point differential for Marshall vs ECU for the 2000 and 2010's. Certainly looks dominant to me. Less than one point difference in both decades between the two schools overall. But we got totally owned. Also in the last 4 meeting we have a slight edge in overall point differential and the record is 2-2.

Marshall is (5-10) against East Carolina

Average score: Marshall 27.9 - East Carolina 31.9

Per decade
Decade W L T PFPG PAPG
2010's 2 2 0 40.5 39.3
2000's 2 4 0 28.7 29.2

I betcha it'll be, like, Ole Miss that is 2014's Auburn...

I don't think Auburn is a flash in the pan. I'd be shocked if they fell off. Pretty much all the players on that team are built for that system. If Marshall could just become average throwing the ball, they are going to be incredibly difficult to beat.

I could see Bama struggling early with a new QB though.

Seriously? Cato is one of the best passers in the nation.

And he still has room to improve. Cato has some mechanical issues he will need to straigthen out if he wants to be a good NFL QB. But he will kill CUSA next season.

Mechanical isn't really his issue, it's two things, JMO. One he still has a bad habit of locking in on one guy and not looking off DB's. The other is when he loses his cool, he becomes erratic and then the mechanics fall apart. It just self control mostly. At home where he seems to be more focused he's been as good as any FBS QB. On the road with less friendly crowds he seems to lose control over his emotions. He can make all the throws at anytime, both in the pocket or rolling out.

My best example of this was the ECU game last year, after throwing an INT in the first half that ECU converted into a TD he spent more time talking trash with fans in the stands behind Marshall's bench than watching the or listening to the coaches. He even got into it with one of the coaches and had to told to get back to bench by coaches several times. Second was at home last year against Tulsa, when Doc had to burn a TO when Marshall was going for 2 and Cato was 80 yards away celebrating the TD in front of the student section.

Cato is damn good QB the has NFL talent, he just needs to control himself to true great.

He has a cannon for an arm. NFL caliber no doubt, but not prototype NFL height. Marshall should roll their schedule next year. I'll be interested to see where he goes pro. I think he's at least a 3rd round pick or better. If he channels his emotions into leading his team better they could have a very special season.

Yes because it's such a mark of intelligence to comment on smack talk that you have nothing to do with when your school is getting owned by every team with a pulse. Marshall has the high ground on this season's trash talk, but a USM fan trying to rescue his self esteem by piggy backing another program is just, well, sad.

No they don't. They don't come close to looking as big time as we do with our facilities, support, etc. They will be with a bunch of 3 year old programs moving forward, and they didn't even have a better record. They didn't have a better season according to 9 out of 10 unbias and relevant people that are paid or entrusted to judge these things. They had one better week out of a dozen, and so did their 3-9 team did a few years ago for all that matters. We beat multiple teams they lost to. There is nothing I would want to trade with them as a program and there is no high ground to talk anything to us as a program. They can go talk to UNCC or App as a program. Really would you trade to have 25k fans, future rivalries with UTSA, UNCC etc, and even a worse record this year?
