Louisville fan poll shows support for Chad Morris as possible Strong successor.

Former Louiville, current Western Kentucky coach Bobby Petrino clear frontrunner in Courier-Journal poll.

Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris has emerged as an intriguing possibility to Louisville fans as a replacement for Charlie Strong, who left the Cardinals over the weekend to become head coach at Texas.

In a fan poll being conducted by the Louisville Courier-Journal, Morris is running second to frontrunner Bobby Petrino of Western Kentucky in balloting.

Petrino, who coached Louisville to a 41-9 record between 2003 and 2006, is receiving 41 percent of fan support, while Morris is second at 13 percent. Louisville's current offensive and defensive coordinators, Shawn Watson and Vance Bedford, are receiving 11 and 9 percent, respectively.

The Austin American-Statesman reported Monday afternoon that Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich plans interview six candidates before making a final decision this weekend.

Bedford interviewed for the job on Monday, and Watson is also expected to interview this week.

Other names that have repeatedly come up in media speculation since Strong took the job at Texas include Petrino, Morris, Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez, Colorado State head coach Jim McElwain and Stanford defensive coordinator Derek Mason.
