The Tim Floyd factor?

UTEP has won five straight since the epic loss to New Orleans. They are 10-5.

While I think Floyd is a sleazeball, I don't know if a point shaving scandal can be laid at the feet of the coach, except maybe blaming him for recruiting that type of player. Un less it can be proven he knew and covered it up.

They might use it as an excuse to get rid of him for not winning enough though.

So with three players kicked off the team, is it safe for me to break out my "Beat UTEP" shirt for the game on the 18th?

NO. With our recent history with them at Bartow, we're destined for overtime.

You know it's bad when you google "Point shaving" and the first thing that comes up is UTEP basketball.

Do we still have clever students who attend games. There are some classic sign making and costume opportunities for our 1/18 game.

I'm picturing a line of student wearing SNL style cone heads with shaving cream on their faces heckling the team.

Call the. The pointy head shavers

my sign would be something like:

1951 CCNY
1978 Boston College
1994 Arizona State
1995 Northwestern
2013 UTEP

or a play of their athletic slogan:

YES WE CAN
(shave points)

They were not betting on UTEP games. Why would you imply that they were point shaving?

The school says they weren't shaving points, but the FBI isn't involved if all they were doing were betting on a few innocent games.

The facts aren't out yet, but the implications are already there that they were shaving points.

I'm with you here. If the guys just gambled, there would be no reason to get the FBI involved. This is also a huge hit to the UTEP roster this year.

I heard a rumor that the FBI was working a deal out with the players and that is why everything is so quiet right now. Who knows what the real story is right now, it will all play out though, I'm sure.

What 2 things do UTEP and Auburn have in common? Barbee, point shaving / gambling allegations. I see a pattern here.

Also, generally speaking, if you are shaving points, you are not actually betting on the game yourself. You would normally have an outside party come and say if you do this, I'll do this for you. I don't know of any intelligent bookie that would actually take a bet on an event from one of the participants involved in the event.

Neither do I. Then again, I don't know any bookies, so ...

Hotch, Morgan, Garcia and the rest of the BAU unit from "Criminal Minds" are profiling the unsub as we speak.
