Mario Cuomo died Jan. 1 -- after the last game's end but before the submission deadline for the new year. Talk about no man's land.

Congratulations to Marathon Blazer, who narrowly edged Smaug by 2 points.

It was the fewest deaths we've ever recorded in the death pool, with just 5 of our 90 celebrities on the list biting the dust in 2014.

2014 was kinda dead, but it wasn't either.

I will always recall his remarks about his mother being interviewed at Ellis island on what she hoped for her new life in America. She might have said the usual things about opportunity and such but could have thrown in "I hope my son will become Governor of the state of New York".

Mario died at just about the same time that his son Andrew took over his old job as Governor of New York as well.
