Elmwood Cemetery
Has anyone here ever done any of the walking tours at Elmwood Cemetery?

I would appreciate any feedback.

A lot of history in that cemetery. If you are up for a short trip I highly suggest Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs. 14 Confederate Generals are buried there. It is a walk through history.

I agree. The home I lived in on Peabody when I was growing up was called Hillcrest because the original builder was from Holly Springs. The connotation was that Yellow Fever was thought to come from low-lying areas (somewhat true because mosquitoes multiply in stagnant water), and my home was at the highest point in that area and, therefore, the builder hoped it would protect against the Fever. Sadly, he died and his widow completed the home and lived in it.

Many people do not realize there are a large number of Confederate soldiers buried at Elmwood in a special section just to the left of the office as you go in the gate.

How long until the Memphis City Council demands those tours be stopped b/c someone is offended that they are honoring CSA generals?

My son used to work at Shiloh up near Pickwick. That is a great tour. Two summers ago we spent two weeks at Pickwick and we did bike tours all through the park.

Shiloh is great. Been there several times. It's about 45 min from where I live.

It's a great experience. They offer various tours. I've always wanted to take the 'Streets' tour but have missed it the last few go rounds.

Shiloh was always a staple when I was a kid.....

Had to watch the movie
Had to go to the gift shop
Had to smell the confederate money
Had to dip my toes in the Bloody Pond
Had to eat catfish and hush puppies
