Chris Vernon Is On Point Today! - Talking about 4 guards
Talking about the 4 guards. And how in 10 games against Top 50 opponents other than Jackson, they have been atrocious. Regarding Crawford, Johnson, and Dixon in 5 games. He's right.

there is no doubt he is right the numbers prove it out to be. josh should get control over the continuous jacking up of 3's.

We were out-coached and out-played at every turn.

Don't remember specific numbers by Johnson shooting 30 percent from the floor, and 20 percent from 3. Dixon same thing in limited time. Crawford not that much better

In fairness to the other guys, Joe was 1-6 with 5 TOs in the second half against Cincy. Wouldn't say he's been flawless against Top 50 teams. He also, along with everyone else, didn't play well in their first game against OK St.

RE: Chris Vernon Is On Point Today! - Talking about 4 guards
Like I've been preaching, its easy for that core to do their thing against the lower tier but against the big boys 3 and 4 guards just cant compete. If they were all 6'6" then maybe but they aint.

As fans, we cant get mad at the 4G core for not being able to pull it out against the big bys... its the COACH who heaps all the load onto them and they're giving it their best. If 4Gs (6'3" and below) was a recipe for success, it would be a trend nation wide but it aint...

Crawfor and Johnson both kick their feet forward on shots. Almost looks like a fadeaway.
If you remember, when Crawford was tring to change from a set to a jump shot, he didn't jump very high, but he went straight up and for awhile anyway, increased his %.
Now, he looks like he's trying to kick someone when he shoots.
There's nothing fluid about either player's motion.

I'd rather take losses several losses now and have our "super" frosh ready to go come tourney time.
We could lose every game and still be ready for March since the conf. tourney is here this year.

RE: Chris Vernon Is On Point Today! - Talking about 4 guards
The 4 guards have to step it up and play better or this team won't be very successful this year. Josh could play more guys but they are freshman so we are basically stuck with the four senior guards and we will live and die by their performances. I do think we can knock off Louisville if our 4 senior guards play well and shoot the ball well and run the offense thru the post guys.

And, it's not only that we are playing 4 guards, that is the issue.

The main issue is that the guards we are playing are 5-10, 6-0, 6-2, & 6-3. It's one thing to play 3 or 4 guards, if 2 of them are 6-5 and physical.

Playing "small ball" against Tulsa, ECU, Tulane, and the rest of C-USA was one thing. Against top 50 teams, is a totally different animal.

RE: Chris Vernon Is On Point Today! - Talking about 4 guards
Tell that to UK whose freshmen start over the upperclassmen.

Heck, tell it to Cincy... their freshmen guards came in and played big just as much so as did their upperclassman. Being a freshmen isnt an excuse for not developing them to contribute.....

There are countless teams which have freshmen contributing there4 that argument is simply a fabrication of an excuse..

Yup. And alot of those frosh aren't nearly as talented as several we have. But, they'll be better players with much greater game awareness come tourney time, than ANY of ours-at this rate.

RE: Chris Vernon Is On Point Today! - Talking about 4 guards
here's the #'s vs top 50 teams the last 2 years:

Crawford (10 games)- 32/98 (32.6%), 13/46 3's (25.2%) 8.6 ppg

Joe (10 games) - 41/90 (45.5%), 6/17 3's (35.3%) 12 ppg

Geron (9 games) - 25/80 (31.3%), 6/32 3's (18.8%) 7.7 ppg

Dixon (5 games) - 14/43 (32.6%), 4/18 3's (22.2%) 8.6 ppg

The games used for reference were-- VCU, Minnesota, Louisville, St Marys, Mich St last season and Okie St twice, LSU, Florida, Cincy this year (used Warren Nolan from last season)

total 29/113 from 3 pt ------ 26% OUCH!

RE: Chris Vernon Is On Point Today! - Talking about 4 guards
Heard a caller earlier today...Memphis took 63 shots against Cincinnati and of those shots - only 14 were by post players.

Just unacceptable.

I'd rather the young post players learn on the job than sitting on the bench watching our guards throw up missed shot after missed shot and completely remove whatever interior presence we had. Nichols might have struggle, but he had 2-3 blocks in just the few minutes he played which I am sure is twice as many as anyone else with 30+ minutes.
