On TCM tonight, no commercials. Awesome movie, just awesome. I love Vienna and the scene at the Prater is great. Too bad Orson Welles would only film in the city for one day.

I love all of those Joseph Cotten black and white film noir movies. Shadow Of A Doubt, where he plays Uncle Charlie was a particular favorite. Also loved Orson Welles The Stranger with Edward G. Robinson.

Watched "To Have and Have Not" today with Bogie, Bacall, Walter Brennan, & Hoagy Carmichael.

Love those old black & white movies.

Because they were awesome.

Found this tidbit:

Although the source novel and the script were written by 2 Nobel Prize winners (Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner), most of the dialog was actually improvised by the cast.

Great movie. Cotten played a great drunk, Welles was still in his acting prime, and Alida Valli was quite fetching in her misery.

Carol Reed filmed some interesting shots of that city right after WW2. Boy, we bombed the heck out of it.

We did alright, although the damage to the Old City was by accident. We were aiming for the oil facilities in Floridsdorf and along the Danube, but the flak towers messed up the bomber stream.

However, most of the worst damage was from the battle for the city from April 5-13, 1945, when the Russians overran it.
