Freshman wall
When do they typically start to go through this? January or February?

I'm not so worried about Woodson, Iverson and Wilson because I think we can live with an 8 man rotation. King is a head scratcher. His game log is confusing to me; I can't imagine him not being confused. The way things are set up now; depth is a problem.

King's confidence is basically shot. I saw on here yesterday where he is 4-10 from 3 pt range. I'll be willing to bet that he's been jerked out of the game after at least 5 of the 6 misses.

I'm sure you're right. Pendulum swings too far in both directions with Josh when it comes to substitutions. The young guys look tight as a drum when they come in the game. It looks like to me they're scared to death to make one mistake.

No freshman wall, it's called conference play.

RE: Freshman wall
Personally, I don't think any of our guys have hit the freshman wall. They've got to be able to get in the flow of the game and play through mistakes, just like the vets.
Austin blocked 2 shots on basically 2 straight possessions and was just getting comfortable in the game Saturday, and he was promptly taken out. Why? Who knows. King is being played out of position, he's a 3 and not a 4. No wonder he's uncomfortable. Woodson and Iverson need minutes with the starters or else they will simply languish.
The coach can blame the wall, but he's the one that's manufactured it.

Nichols was taken out because he wasn't rebounding. Why is that so hard for some you to get. Nichols offensive game has taken a major dive the last month. Basketball like baseball is a production type game you don't produce you dint play a lot period.
A guy like Nichols should be getting more than one rebound before he is signed out the first time. That is why he isn't getting minutes. I like Austin and he is going to be a hell of a player, but right now he is getting pushed around and his hands ate not dying when out comes to getting rebounds.
And again everyone and I mean everyone knew that we were going to live and die with the guards. It's time to accept that this season will go as the guards go. You all can keep crying for a conventional lineup, but it isn't happening.

UConn will attest that playing CUSA opponents are automatic wins.

RE: Freshman wall
And yes...Nichols was having a rough outing- a very different point than whether sticking with more inside game even when a defense is packing it in is the right thing to do- and the early rebounds he gave up kept Cincy close.
Memphis really should have had a big lead at halftime- missed some wide open threes and the bigs were giving up too much inside. When Cincy's defense then packed it in more in the second half and our kids continued to miss often open threes- we lost.
It happens and it will happen again.
There will also be nights when our good players play well and we will win.
Like every team in the country- especially this year. One of them will put it together for several consecutive games in March and win it all. Many of them will have fanbases that view every loss as a career referendum as well as cling to the idea that the other team has nothing to do with it or that no matter what- you can magically get players to play better every single time by making this change or that. Then when their coach makes this change or that and it does not work- they will grouse louder.
Against Louisville I have little doubt we will work our inside game. When doubles come or when a shooter becomes wide open as a result of going inside we will hopefully make some of those shots. When the defense does not react quickly enough hopefully our bigs will finish the bunnies and defensively not give back as many early rebounds.
That is how it works.

RE: Freshman wall
I agree that Nichols needs to rebound better, but he's got to play through it and obviously effort more. He's too valuable offensively. If Pastner would throw a zone out there for a minute or two, it would help with spacing defensively and maybe create some confidence.
It would benefit this team to start a bigger player at the 3 spot which would make the defense have to keep 3 guys off the boards rather than just Shaq and Austin, when they play together.
This team took off when they realized they have to go inside out with Austin and Shaq. They have gotten away from that by playing 4 guards too much. I'd love to see Woodson play with Shaq and Austin at the same time.

You have to train your bigs on how you want them to play...NONE of our bigs really play physical...Pellom and King (doesn't play) are probably the best at it.

They have to play and play with the regulars, in order to form an identity. Woodson needs to be used as does Iverson as does King at the 3.

This is what I'm talking about work Austin right now.
First 7 games of the season he avg. 6 boards a game the last 6 games he has avg. 2 rebounds. His rebound totals the last 6 games are 3 3 0 3 2 1.
That right there is why he isn't playing a ton.

I agree with this but would add that shaq plays physical, but sometimes does way too much our plays way too fast and losses the ball on a simple layup. Shaq will bang with guys
