I was there, ran all over USM that day, but they were headed down a cliff at the time.

RE: WKU fans....
If Marshall plays at WKU this year on a Saturday, I could see us taking 10k fans. Easy drive to BG from Huntington, and lots of alums in Lexington.

That'd be awesome although 10,000 seems a bit steep. With the endzone berm and standing room only attendance, I believe our stadium will hold up to or over 25,000. We're of course hopeful that as we start filling it regularly, the next expansion phase will start.

RE: WKU fans....
These smaller stadiums coming to the conference makes me think of something. Aren't cusa members required to offer several thousand tickets to visiting conference schools? Does anyone know the exact amount that is required? I ask because ODU, Charlotte, and WKU all have small stadiums that they close to fill up on their own, and I can see marshall bringing good crowds to games against those three.

I would say we bring 5k minimum. Depending when the game is, how the teams are doing, we could easily bring 8k there.

I asked the question wondering if I would be able to get a ticket for the game this year. No inside knowledge but it'd make sense for us to play you at your place this upcoming season.

Yep. I read somewhere someone was speculating that since Marshall played at MTSU this year that the conference wouldn't schedule both MTSU and WKU at Marshall next year so likely Marshall would be coming to Bowling Green this coming year. I'm stoked about that. Barring bad weather and hopefully both teams are playing well, we could easily set a record attendance. It's only a four hour drive from Huntington to BG so unless it's a midweek game, I'll be making road trips to Huntington in coming years and so will many WKU fans. Like you, we have thousands of fans in Louisville and Lexington which are much closer to Huntington.

We're all going to be in the east next year, so MT, WKCC and Marshall will all play each other. I expect western to take Southern Miss' schedule in the east and ODU to take ECU's. That would put Marshall at western and MT will play at Marshall next year and western at MT.

I am pretty sure half our fanbase refers to MTSU as the MUTS. I wouldn't let an intentional name slip ruffle your feathers. It is just normal rivalry banter.

Understatement of the year! This rivalry will dwarf any existing ones in CUSA.

Well it's not hard when majority of rivals are leaving like UCF & ECU with Marshall. UCF & Marshall had a grat rivalry from our MAC days together to their coach calling us all rednecks and telling us they were going to show us how to play football to moving to CUSA together and their football losing streak ending and they tore the goal posts down after beating us to their win streak to Donnie Jones leaving Marshall to take job at UCF and all the stuff in between.

It's good that multiple schools coming in already are rivals. That's what makes sports great is the passion.

They will bring 4000-5000 (which is solid) however by the time Marshall fans hit the chat board it will have grown to 15,000 and and they will have out numbered WKU fans easily 2-1.

No, thats only when we go to Ohio :)

Now back to the CUSA talk....

I'm glad to be in a regional conference with MTSU and WKU especially. I look forward to making trips to those games.

Pointless they are going to be stuck in the west. We have lost everyone but UAB.

If it were Ohio they would bring 35 and a can of food.

RE: WKU fans....
As was mentioned earlier in the thread. Standing room only would be right around 25k. WKU averages over 18k a game on its own. Would have been higher then that this season if not for a horrible fan turnout on Thanksgiving weekend (12k and that was probably a stretch).

Phase II of stadium expansion at WKU will hold upwards of around 45k. When WKU remodeled the stadium upon joining FBS they made it so that the stadium could easily be added on to and the open endzone closed in to create basically a horseshoe around the berm in the other endzone. However, our athletics dept has said that until we really start selling out they aren't going to add on just for the sake of adding on. WKU's average attendance has gone up every season. I think next season will see it rise again with the conference change bump. WKU also has the backing up several multi-billion dollar corporations in Houchen's Industries and Russell Athletic (Fruit of The Loom). Houchen's donated 10 million last expansion. From what I have heard they have said they will do the same when we are ready to expand again.
