Welp, I bet Texas fans are less than thrilled. I guess Texas Big 12 fans are thrilled.

Poor hire IMHO.

RE: Texas hires Charlie Strong
I said on a different thread it would be a good hire, but Strong will definitely need several Texas-based assistants. At least one coordinator and at least 3-4 position coaches who have made the bulk of their careers coaching in TX.

Dancing in the streets in Orlando. Maybe he will find his "better team" in Austin.

I have an idea but I'm probably wrong.

RE: Texas hires Charlie Strong
Good hire.

Charlie did his job and stuck it out with Louisville after a great 2012 season capped off with the Sugar Bowl win. Louisville may not be happy, but can't blame Charlie. He kept that program moving fwd, guided them through their remaining AAC schedule. UL will be fine now in the ACC.

Good luck Charlie, you're headed to the frying pan.

Does Charlie seem like the type to enjoy that 24/7 circus? Much like Coach Pete passed on USC and waited for the Washington job to be open, I wonder if he shouldn't have waited for the Florida job to open (and you would think that job would open fairly soon.)

Best of luck to him. I thank him for what he did for us. Time to bring Bobby back up from the Hilltoppers...

RE: Texas hires Charlie Strong
Not a bad hire, but I had hopes for other coaches. Maybe they weren't ready for that kind of challenge and Strong wasn't scared by it. jml is right that there are probably a lot of Longhorn fans that aren't happy, but it is less a reflection on what they think of Strong as much as it is likely disappointment that Texas would hire someone like Saban, Miles, Dantonio or even Briles or a Mike Tomlin-type.

Not a bad suggestion. Bobby Petrino back in Louisville and in the ACC. He succeeds and he'll be back in the SEC in no time.

He's a really good coach, but he doesn't seem like a really good fit for the Longhorn circus.

That's true. He does seem to be a bit too… normal and well-adjusted.

Coming up: Chimp Brown to tell us how UT got their #1 target all along and the rest was just unsubstantiated rumors (including his own)

:D

Why not? He left us for the Falcons and I have a feeling he's been quite humbled. Someone is gonna give him a second chance eventually...why not the school they gave him his first chance?

The names I've heard though, should he leave (looks likely but now there's some doubt)

David Cutcliffe (already contacted but fans aren't happy about that)
Bobby Petrino
Jay Gruden (probably gonna get an NFL HC job soon but he is an alumni so it's not far fetched)
Chad Morris
Kirby Smart
Rich Rod
Jim McElwain
Shawn Watson (gross...please no)

IIRC, Chip insisted earlier this week that UT's "sole focus" was on Jim Mora.

I think, first of all, that it's not going to happen for a variety of reasons.
But secondly, I also think that Louisville would be making a huge mistake to bring Petrino back as HC. To me, that's just begging for drama.

LOL and I agree. Such a boring hire that will haunt Texas for a few years. Oh well, I guess Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma St will have to continue waving the Big 12 flag( Yes, I know OSU lost but who thought it would be that close).

Maybe Louisville could get John L. Smith to come back. He coached at Fort Lewis College, a Division II school, this year
