It doesn't. I was at a basketball game.

RE: Compass Bowl attendance, and harsh reality.
The ONLY projected venue in our metro area with the capacity of Legion Field is a MPF. Until such a place is built, Atlanta will have no local competition for any of its HUNDREDS of annual events they now can count on hosting. AND Legion Field will have no competition to prevent it remaining what it is.

The list of venues in other cities that are newer than Legion Field but are being demolished grows year by year. How old are Crampton Bowl in Montgomery and Ladd Stadium in Mobile? Does anyone see a problem with a population that has trouble replacing old and older venues except on college campuses?

I would probably cut a deal with the hoover met if new stadium doesn't happen + making that short term move might get a new stadium to happen.

Without looking, do you have any idea of the capacity of the Hoover Met?

A couple of the issues he presented in that post are complete garbage.

Quote:* One of the restaurants at the team's headquarters hotel (the Wynfrey) was quoting a wait of at least 45 minutes for food on Friday night at 9:00 PM, despite being nearly deserted.

That has nothing to do with the city, stadium, or bowl game committee. That has to do with the team not doing research on the restaurants before going there. Shula's sucks, it doesn't take a local to know that...just someone willing to look up the restaurant on UrbanSpoon.

Quote:* The tailgate event put on by the VU alumni office was a mess and ill-equipped to handle so many attendees.

How is that anyone else's fault? Sounds like a probably with the Vandy alumni office.

That Legion Field sucks is not exactly a news flash around here.

Here's the sad thing: About 5K fans showed up for our finale against Southern Miss, a game in which UAB was blown out by a team that had not won a game in almost two years.

What's worse: Our defense, or our fanbase? What exactly do we expect for 2014?

I am not a basketball fan so I don't know much about how UAB basketball is faring. I do know that football is on life-support.

Exactly how bad is it? Or is it going to be just fine? Where do we go from here?

Roll Tide, right?

I would think you could go few years at the hoover met if they expanded it to 20-25,000 range. I guess the long term plan would be to convert it to a soccer facility in hopes of landing a minor league team after uab football moves in. Legion field is dump and no traction seems to be happening on another stadium. IF hoover is spending some money to fix up the met, they aren't gonna let UAB football fold up shop if they are the tenant to brings in $. Thus, you would have a base to operate to try to land another stadium + getting out of legion field for good might make folks put a plan in action. Right now you seem to be in catch 22 misery.

Next question, do you know why the Barons moved from the Hoover Met to Regions Field?

Twitter was littered with fans from both Vandy & UH blasting Legion Field. On one hand , I want to join them. But I also know that a fan dogging his own stadium can hurt recruiting. What can we do? It's a real shame.

The moved to Regions because they have a new stadium. Not because it is in Hoover.

The city of Birmingham has no business hosting a bowl game, particularly at Lesion Field. A bowl game should be a reward, not punishment.

The support for the Barons in Hoover had dried up.

The location downtown is a lot better suited for everyone compared to Hoover which is suited for those South of town.

Legion Field really IS a dump. I thought The Rob was awful before we tore it down for the new stadium back in 2012 but damn.

Legion Field makes The Rob look like the Taj Mahal.

I must admit: I'm one of the few who loves Legion Field hot dogs. They rule.

Yes, ESPN snookered everyone into getting another bowl game here.

A lot of the people that live here could not care less about the bowl.

I suspect the local attendance was rather dismal, especially if you exclude the freebee corporate tickets.

BBVA does a good job with the bowl. I've heard that most of the players enjoy the hospitality/activities. Some bowls do a lousy job with that.

Hospitality has run out.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBVA_Compass_Bowl

"On April 3, 2013, BBVA Compass decided not to renew its sponsorship of the BBVA Compass Bowl following the January 2014 game."
