FCS Football
After viewing thousands upon thousands of empty seats at many of the FBS bowl games, the FCS Championship Game looks rather good on ESPN2 this afternoon. Place looks packed. Looks as if NDSU travels well. Good game so far.

A: Tickets are cheaper and nobody wants to go to Legion Field. B: If you lived in North Dakota and had an excuse to leave, you would.
C: FCS teams don't have idiot fans like the Alabama mom.

RE: FCS Football
Every FBS bowl game received greater media attention (print, radio,TV) than FCS playoffs and championship game. Will be interesting to see how FCS championship game does if/when NDSU is not there. However in all fairness, Plano, tx is a much better host of the game and has supported the game much better than Chattanooga.

Also rest assured, FCS fans can be every bit as stupid or foolish as FCS fans[/i]

There were less then 20k in attendance that outdrew only one bowl, The Military Bowl and it was close to the Beef O Brady's Bowl.

The average Bowl attendance this year for all 35 bowls was 49,222.
The 5A Div1 Texas State Championship game drew 54,347, that beat 20 of the 35 bowl games this year.

That would mean that the big boys' bowls must have had 150,000+ (I saw a lot of empty seats at several of those -- that Gator Bowl, for example, was awful) because those little bowls that I watched, a number of them would have been lucky to have 10,000 actually there in the seats. Now, maybe the 49,222 average represented tickets sold -- or purchased by the schools involved so they could go to a bowl. That FCS game had 19,000 plus -- but they were actually there in attendance.

You also have to remember that those bowl games were played in bigger stadiums so yeah empty seats would make the crowds look smaller. the FCS game was played in a 20,500 seat stadium so yeah it looked full because it was full.

Of course they were played in bigger stadiums. However, at a number of them, there were far more empty seats than those occupied by butts. Still, that FCS game looked good on TV, and the producer didn't have to strain and rig the camera angles in order to hide empty seats from TV viewers (it's really funny how they do that, especially on punts and kick offs). Bottom line, not much difference between these little bowls that schools are going nuts to be part of and the FCS title game as far as I can see. Another funny thing, when the Big Five Conferences go their separate way, all this moving up from FCS to FBS of recent years might not turn out to be what was envisioned.
