RE: DC - Highsmith out for the season
Of course he is.

Hopefully he can come back 100% next year. That's a giant kick in the nuts.

A medical hardship waiver would somewhat ease the pain, though.

What are the requirements for basketball a medical redshirt?

RE: DC - Highsmith out for the season
Very difficult blow to NIU and Mark M. and an even tougher blow for the young man. The program was showing some definate improvement this year and Highsmith was a big part of it. I hope that he is able to recover and come back strong. I tore my acl and 2/3 of my mcl and it can be a difficult injury though surgical procedures have come a long way in my lifetime.

MM was going to ride the kid coat tails to his next gig. So sad for the young man and MM.

Highsmith doesn't qualify, making that very unlikely. He's played in well over 20% of NIU's scheduled games for the year, which is the NCAA's threshold. I think they've made exceptions in the past but given that he's well exceeded the 20% limit I'd be surprised if he was given a hardship waiver.

When you don't have a lot bad luck like this is magnified. Ugh.

MM, next gig was and will be at NIU. Look for Aaric Armstead to start to improve rapidly. [/u]

MM will be gone in two years, by his winning or by the AD pushing him out by losing. The life of D1 coach.

No way, it doesn't work like it does in football. Monty will win here but he will not be gone in 2yrs. Frazier tweets tonight, its good too see NIU bball going in the right direction!

Also out for the season is Marin Maric, with two pins inserted in his foot.
He hasn't played since Nov. 30 and Montgomery hopes to have him back this summer.
Senior guard Antone Christian had MCL surgery Thursday and will be out 3-4 weeks.

Rooting for NIU basketball sometimes feels like rooting for Charlie Brown to kick a field goal.

RE: DC - Highsmith out for the season
have to look for positives...we weren't going anywhere this year (albeit improving), this gives more experience for others on the team that hopefully need it more going into next year.

There's no positive to it. There's no guarantee he ever fully recovers from it. It sucks.
