Moderately NIU related but damn, this board is weird this time of year so I'll post.

To clear the air, I'm taking the full responsibility for the end of the season. Booked my trip to the Fiesta Bowl the week before Detroit, jinxed us. Got cocky after breaking my personal 12 game "road" losing streak vs UMass. My bad.

Instead, tagged along with the gf to visit family in San Antonio this week. San Antonio is fantastic city, would LOVE to play in the Alamo Bowl some year. The Army All American Bowl is this weekend and there were some High School BEASTS in the riverwalk area. Tons of Oregon fans as well for the Alamo Bowl too. Rude awakening coming back to the Chi with single digit temperatures and sitting on the MDW tarmac for 2+ hrs for Southwest to corral us to the gate.

In closing, drove through Austin, TX on NYE. Went past Longhorn's stadium, "holy $hit" was what I thought. "Holy $hit" for two reasons. The first, is obvious if you see that complex in person. The second was to think how awesome last several years for NIU have been, Heisman Contender, BCS Game, ect. Couple that with the huge economic gap between us and "big boys" makes things even more special. Unreal actually. In the meantime I'll be watching for recruiting stuff. Crazy to think we are even in the mix for guys considering schools like Florida, Okie, Clemson, ect.

Damn proud of NIU! Can't wait to see what's next

Side note, there is an Eastern Michigan bball jersey in the San Antonio airport at George Gervin's bar. Thought that was pretty cool.

Yep. Our name has become widely recognized. Whenever I wear my Huskie clothing at O'Hare and other airports, I always get positive comments (on the Huskies, not me). I get tons of comments in the Chicago area.

I can't believe the plane can even get off the ground.

Actually, I am on the TSA's pre-check list. I think it's because they don't want to frisk me.

Not a problem. I am instructed to not eat for 2 days before my flight. The plane can then take off, but after that, I buy every damn meal and snack that the flight attendants offer. Sometimes, I am so hungry that I can eat the flight attendants!

I'm surprised you don't crash the plane with all that added weight. I'd also hate to see what the airplane bathroom looks like after you're done with it.

I can't fit in that bathroom. I hold it all in until I can get to an airport bathroom. Then, I explode.

It's not entirely your fault. I messed up a couple pre-game good luck to the team rituals myself. Thought we'd be fine...and we weren't . So I will share s little of the blame. I do agree though...booking your Fiesta flight before the MACC was ...well...a huge jinx. As were the guys wearing the sombreros at Cheli's before the MACC game.
The stars just did not align this year. Still had a great year though. a Ton of good times! 04-cheers

I'll take a little blame from you too. I'm 0-7 at road/neutral games and shouldn't have gone to Detroit. Lost @ U of I (92 & 2010), Iowa (91), Northwestern (06), Ohio St (07?), OB (13) and Detroit (13). At least I can stop wearing this nasty lucky shirt I've worn to every home game since 2010. Starting fresh next year!

Probably best to just not go to road/ neutral-site games.

NIU hasn't shown up for a lot of the big road/neutral site games in the past several years. Any fan who makes the trek for the important road games is going to see more losses than wins. It's pretty easy to beat up on MAC/FCS teams at home and crappy MAC teams on the road.

Here's my list of away/neutral games, shorter and equally as bad:

82 Northwestern - L They break their long losing streak against us.
00 Northwestern - L Michael Turner's first game. His relatives were way overserved.
05 Michigan - L We coulda been Appalachian State but fumbles did us in.
06 Ohio State - L Garrett Wolfe's big day for naught.
09 South Florida - L USF had every defender within five yards of the line of scrimmage.
10 Minnesota - W NIU dominates, Spann runs wild.
11 Wisconsin - L The Russell Wilson Show.
12 Iowa - L Lynch's first game. Iowa gets lucky with a punt at the end.
13 Florida State - L Awesome experience, proud of my school and team.
13 Purdue - W Huskies deliver an *** beating at Ross Ade.

The Toledo game was the first time I saw NIU win on the road, my all time record (1-8-1)

I have seen them win twice on neutral fields(2-5)

This last MACC was the first time I saw NIU lose when they were playing for the MAC championship(83, 11 and 12) for 3-1 record.

I can get a new flag now...so that's one positive.
