If we are going off of that game, truth be told we'd probably need several more openings on the staff. 03-lmfao

UC parting ways with 2 assistant football coaches

Universityof Cincinnati defensive coordinator Art Kaufman and defensive tackles coach Fred Tate will not return to the program next season, sources inside the program say. Sources also say that no other staff changes are expected.

Head coach Tommy Tuberville is traveling Friday and was not immediately available for comment.

Kaufman and Tate both came with Tuberville from Texas Tech to the new UC staff for 2013. UC went 9-4 and finished No. 9 nationally in total defense (315.6 yards per game) and No. 16 in scoring defense (21.0 ppg), but sources say recruiting is among the aspects Tuberville wants to upgrade.

Kaufman is a 29-year coaching veteran, including 11 years as a coordinator at the NCAA FBS level. He also coached under Tuberville at Ole Miss from 1995-98.

Tate is a 16-year coaching veteran, with experience as an assistant at nine schools.

This may not be a bad idea. I thought Kerry Combs worked out well on the recruiting end. The funny part was the recruiting did not come from Cincy rather Indy.

Butch Davis isn't going to be retained in Tampa Bay after Schiano was fired... Is he still prohibited from coaching per his release from UNC?

Tuberville MUST have someone in mind to make this move. While our defense was not dominant, I thought our defensive schemes were at least pretty good.

My thought, too. Hope there is an announcement PDQ indicating he had a quality DC with possible recruiting contacts in tow lined up. Also hope this is not scheme-related.

Maybe another power school position coach/recruiter is getting a chance as a coordinator.

Doubt we'll hear anything before the middle of next week. TT is out of town, probably in Pasadena to watch his kid in the BCS championship game.

I may be vilified, but I'd love to see Tressey back in the fold... But that's wishful thinking.

I think what caught me off guard was the fact that it was the DC who got changed and not the OC. I would have felt better if the news was that Gran was leaving and maybe being replaced with Weist.... But whatever.

Chizik would be a slam-dunk, home-run, whatever...hire for the DC. We'll have to wait and see.

TT spoke at a Bearcat Faithful luncheon, while the content of those luncheons are never to leave the room, I can relate one thing he said. He expects assistants to recruit. He has never fired an assistant for coaching mistakes, but has canned many for failing to recruit...may be the case here.

I wouldn't mind Tressel spending some time here until his show-cause expires. 05-stirthepot

For what it's worth, Kaufmann and Tate were the primary recruiters for only two of Cincinnati's 2014 commits.

Speaking of Bearcat Faithful, I got an email the football coaches will be speaking on 1/13. For those who do not/rarely attend might be an interesting one. Heck, I might have to take a personal day as it will probably cover a lot of ground.

John Lovett left to coach the secondary for the Eagles and there was some talk of Kaufman taking the ECU DC job last year but nothing came of it.

Was at a luncheon where TT stated he had never fired an assistant due to his coaching skills, but had let any number go because they couldn't/didn't recruit. Have no idea whether that is factually true, but he did say it - what is strange is both these guys came with him from Texas Tech, so he must have known about both their coaching and recruiting skills. Strange?

Good post IMO. Not that I don't understand Rath's thinking, but still good post.
