I'm sure he could play CB for us. Oh, wait, new coach and staff.

Jacketsonline’s report states that since Lee already burned his redshirt year, Lee will likely transfer down to a FCS program where he would be eligible to play immediately.

“Possible destinations for Lee include James Madison, Elon and Richmond, which are all closer to his hometown of Durham,” the report said.

I think he's ours for the taking if we want him. It's going to depend on how Withers feels about Birdsong as our guy.
We can use so much in our favor to get this guy if we want him- Withers' NC ties, JMU moving to FBS in the near future, facilities best in FCS, etc.

One thing is for certain, we need a backup in the worst way. I think we'll take him considering we're a better school than the other 2.

How might the NCAA look at a player who moves to a team in transition from FCS to FBS. Yes, I know I'm speculating.

If we are getting Lee it needs to happen almost immediately before the next semester starts or he will be ineligible wherever he goes. So he will be transferring to an FCS school as that's what we are as of today. NCAA doesn't give a crap about the FCS to FBS move in the future in that regard.

Us transitioning isn't really a draw for a guy that only has two years of eligibility left. It doesn't hurt, but it's not like it matters as he won't be around once/if we complete the transition. Schedule for next year is pretty much set.

In the 2 or 3 times I saw lee he was not a very accurate passer. I think a position change is in order

Maybe but his mechanics are terrible due to that offense and the Georgia Tech offensive line is one of the worst I have ever seen in a BCS conference. I hope we get Lee and let him compete this spring with Birdsong. The more talent the better and the more competition the better.

Agree. I don't think it's fair to assume that Lee couldn't be an effective passer if he was in a different system under the right leadership. I'm not saying he would be, but to say he wouldn't be based on his passing stats in a triple option offense isn't fair. Most passes in the triple option are either 3rd and long where the D knows what's coming or shots down-field to a one WR route to try and surprise the D. Neither of those situations are high percentage throws. Not to mention the OL run blocks on nearly every play in games and in practice, and run and pass blocking are two very different things, so when the QB does have to drop back, he's not going to get the best pass protection.

I would love for him to transfer to JMU, as he's a big-time athlete and would give us more competition and depth at the QB position, as you mentioned. We have no depth at QB right now, and if Lee turns out to be the better QB based on the coaches' evaluation, then he should get the nod as the starter.

I'm fine with him coming to JMU. Competition is good for everyone, and Birdsong doesn't have a ton behind him.

For every Justin Rascati there's a Billy Cosh.

I'd hate to see the kid transfer in and not start.

He's started as qb1 for an ACC team the last two years. He's not going to transfer to JMU as an "athlete". He will transfer where ever he can start right away.

Agreed. Someone is going to need to give him the starting job to secure his services.

Then it will be Elon. UR has Strauss and Rocco on the roster.

RE: Vad Lee
We can definitely use some depth at QB.

Anyone have news on Birdsong and his shoulder? Was it rotator cuff issue? can't recall.

Saw him a couple weekends ago at the Inaugural Big River Rivalry game, a local-ish All star game at Randolph Macon. He was in a sling.

Was going to just drop a "So what do you think of the new Coach" type question or something but figured, heck leave the guy alone. Let him watch some football without "that guy" getting in his face. haha.

Great game BTW. First time they've held it and it was close to, and may have been, a sellout. Good stuff.

Wasn't the injury to his non-throwing shoulder?
