Bowl replay
If you are a glutton for punishment, Direct TV is replaying the game broadcast on Fri morning at around 2 am. Set your DVR....

Mentioned this in other threads, but I DVR'd it originally and re-watched. Good for those who want to analyze specific aspects of the game, but if you are doing it just as a fan, make sure and have a few adult beverages handy.

I could only watch that once. At the game's conclusion I immediately hit the erase button.

That may have been one of my problems in analyzing in real time (although I was pacing myself for the evening...).

Cool. How many Rice flags did you see at the game?

My flag was from the tailgate. Not at the game. We did have signs and banners but haven't watched the coverage yet. Not sure I can stomach it.

RE: Bowl replay
From what I remember watching the game (I had to have several beverages to keep it going), the commentary was pretty weak, so just another reason for me to not re-watch it. I understand that Rice is a tough school to probably give good commentary on, considering we are so small and relatively unknown, but my buds and I were joking, particularly as the game got out of hand, about how thin and lifeless the commentary seemed. However, this may have just been us trying to focus on something else besides MSU's growing lead.

I thought the commentary was relatively good. I remember a late-game moment of silence, which is better than usual for ESPN in a blowout.

I remember predominantly the pre- and during game commentary that everyone should stay tuned for the Johnny Football show after the game... No mention of either team actually playing in the Liberty Bowl and very little mention of the teams playing immediately afterward.

Well, in this rare case they were pretty prescient. Despite how well Duke and their qb played, that really was the JFF show - a really spectacular game by Manziel. This was one game where he brought the best of Tim Tebow's leadership and drive, and combined it with his usual unprecedented talent (I'm no great fan of JFF, it's just that he had a spectacular game).

RE: Bowl replay
My reason for watching the replay was to see the replays. I was amazed to see the small number of penalties called in the game. One weird call against MSU on the blocked PAT ANC the one unnecessary roughness penalty were all that were called on MSU. And the two Ricky tacky offsides callson our D. In looking at it, the play right before the first MSU touchdown we almost intercepted looked on replay to have been offensive pass interference. Their player did not make a play on the ball and got there early. May be some sour grapes, but I would love to have a real knowledgeable review of the referees in the game.

Some things that stand out to me on the replay...

ESPN talking heads as early as 10 minutes into the game questioning why the guy that Rice coaches said can't be the one that they let beat us was beating us

We had two players committed to Lewis in ineffective zone coverage, but couldn't adjust to put a CB on him?

pre-snap.. Rice DL in three point stance for as long as it takes... MSU had 6-8 players popping up to the line and back, shifting side to side, presumably to counter the Meerkat

something that stood out for me was after the teams ran on the field just before 1st qtr kickoff, Rice players were just standing on the sideline... State players was jumping up and down appearing to be full of energy.

They showed what looked like redshirts and injured players for MSU jumping up and down on the sidelines. Since they have nothing better to do and wouldn't be involved in the game, it makes sense, but it's an indicator of the energy level of the team as a whole. It does run counter to Coach Bailiff's comments about leading the nation in chest bumps, though.

One thing I noticed is that the flags around the stadium perimeter alternated Rice and MSU. The Rice flag was the Texas state flag with the OER.
