That's what I was thinking when I was watching UCF manhandle Baylor last night. We had UCF all but beat & did beat them soundly in the box score, which doesn't mean much of course. At least for me, this provides a lot of hope for next season.

The product was much improved this year and next the record will start to better represent the product. The improvement should be obvious to anyone who watched 2 years ago and this past season. Hopefully, the team is watching these bowl games and realizing how competitive they really were this season.

The last two games were pretty awful. The reason I cant get excited about it.

Just like last years finish provided so much enthusiasm for this year, I fear that collapse at the end will dampen the hype next year. I know I am a little more hesitant about knowing we are going in the right direction. We'll see

I'm worried some of the players quit on the coach. Hopefully those were seniors and the underclass men have bought in.

That's the rub. Next season will be fine if we see the team that showed up aginst UCF and UL. It will be rough if we see the team that showed up against Temple, SMU and UConn.
We really need to finish 6-6 (4-4 in conference).

I don't think they quit, I think they were emotionally spent. They left it all on the field at Louisville, got cheated on a bum call. I don't know if that call allowed Louisville to win, but at that point in the season it can make or break most young kids.
So I don't think they quit intentionally, they ran out of gas and didn't know how to get it back.
Hopefully, watching the teams they played participate in the bowl games and seeing some great football will motivate them to realize that they are right there, it's time to get over the hump.

Agree, I believe up to that game they had a chance to be bowl eligible. After that loss they seemed to be emotionally spent. With nothing left to play for beyond pride, they had nothing in the left in the tank.

Not really, these were all moral victories.
We should focus on getting some wins any wins in our Conference first.

I'm in agreement on the emotional roller coaster which is magnified by our youth. We have to believe we are going to win not just play hard. We will still be on the young side next year at many positions but players will be young and experienced. If we can get a couple of early wins the belief part will come and those killer mistakes that cost us the close wins will disappear.
We need improvement on the OL to help answer the question about Lynch.
We need two solid RB to perform and hold on to the ball. I hope the 6th year is granted.
We need the rest of our WR to step up and catch he ball. We need a verticle game.
We need our DB to stop giving up home runs.
We need to replace a world class punter to maintain a really good special teams performance.

Some of us have always been bi-sportal. Just more are coming out of the closet.

Next year is a big one for Fuente. These last two years, most people only expected visible progress and proof of competitiveness. In 2014, he'll be expected to get five-six wins and contend for a bowl. It won't be so subjective anymore. Either he does it or he doesn't. If he doesn't, he''ll no longer have the majority support like he does right now.

Also -
We need to fill the open coaching position for the DL.
