To be accurate this is not correct. The American Athletic Conference is a AQ BCS conference by every definition. I honestly would pick UCF and Louisville over the top 2 in every conference except the SEC and ACC this year.

It's only a matter of time before they get some time of entry again.

For six more months, yes.

…………

Time will tell how things turn out. But I honestly believe for the moment that the AAC will emerge -- from a competitive standpoint and from a media/exposure standpoint -- as clearly above C-USA, MAC, MWC, and the SBC.

They've only got Louisville for 6 more months. Rutgers also. No team in the AAC next year will have been in the conference in 2004. 9 of the 11 will be former CUSA members. CUSA never won the non-BCS bid.

I think that it's going to be hard to leave the AAC if they keep on improving. I hope UCF gets a late Christmas present in Bortles not going pro. They really will have a chance to make the playoff with their schedule.

But look who was getting the non-BCS bids in those days:

Utah/2004 season
Boise State/2006
Hawaii/2007
Utah/2008
TCU/2009
Boise State/2009
TCU/2010
Northern Illinois/2012

4 of those 8 slots went to folks now in the Big XII or the Pac-12. Hawaii caught lightning in a bottle, going 12-0 against 2 FCS teams (bad FCS teams, at that) and some of the lowest-rated FBS teams. That scenario won't happen again.

Boise and NIU could, admittedly, put together the kind of 13-0 or 12-1-type of run necessary. Not many others can.
