FGCU beats Upstate. It took FGCU making 11-of-19 three pointers to win by only 4 points. I think this game highlighted each others weaknesses. Upstate goes through several lulls where they can't get anything done, and FGCU lived on the 3. We all know you can't live on the 3 forever.

Just curious, outside of today's game (we all know you have to have some extraordinary things happen sometimes in order to win games on the road) what makes one think that FGCU lives by the 3?

Right now, only 1 team in the ASun has FEWER made 3's per game than than FGCU (5.78). That's Stetson with 5.4 per game.

So I don't think that it's accurate to say that FGCU lives and dies by the 3.

That is what I was referencing. In league games, FGCU is 8th in makes and 8th in attempts, which means to me that they win most of their games without the three.

FGCU strengths:
1. 2nd in the league in FG% defense.
2. 2nd in the league in FG% offense
3. Transittion offense.

FGCU weakness:
1. They struggle in the half court. If they aren't running, they struggle at times to be consistent especially on the road.
2. They are not a GREAT perimeter shooting team. Give them credit, however, they don't take forced perimeter shots.

Dooley has changed FGCU's focus from run and gun to a defense leads to offense. They are really good in the half court defense and are nearly impossible to beat if they can turn defensive rebounds and turnovers into instant offense. They struggle when they don't hit shots because they can't get set on D.

In FGCU losses:

vs. ETSU...shot 31% first half and down 13 at half.
vs. Mercer...shot 35% for the game.
vs. JU...shot 43%

FGCU has only won three league games shooting under 45% (vs. Upstate, @ Stetson, vs. NKU) from the floor and only four league games when shooting under 50%. They get close shots and take advantage of other team's offensive efficiencies. With that being said, they are not nearly as good away from home, but that is everyone in this league (Only two teams with winning road records).

All I meant was in that particular game. If not for the crazy 3 point shooting they didn't have much else. Upstate is gonna be thinking of that loss for a while.

swvabucs brings up a valid point... they don't make many 3's. Upstate really let one slip away.

I love this. If someone hands me a winning formula, I don't try to re-write it to get the same result.
