Austin American Statesmen: Art Briles/Charlie Strong...
From the article:

Baylor fans nervous about Briles

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.Baylor coach Art Briles has not been interviewed by Texas athletic director Steve Patterson for the Longhorns head coaching vacancy, but a source very close to Briles said he would be willing to visit after Wednesday night’s Fiesta Bowl.

The American-Statesman has also confirmed previously published reports that Louisville’s Charlie Strong has officially interviewed with Patterson at an undisclosed location. But Patterson told Strong that the athletic director planned to visit with other candidates to replace Mack Brown as well.

The Statesman source said it was unknown how Strong’s interview with Patterson went.

Patterson could not be reached for comment. According to a report in the Louisville Courier-Journal, Patterson telephoned Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich seeking permission to talk to Strong, but the two did not make contact with each other.
The Baylor source said that Briles has no plans to remain in Arizona and is scheduled to return to Waco on Wednesday with the rest of the Baylor team. Two sources, including one close to Briles, has told the Statesman that Briles would accept the Texas job if offered.

What's Strong's buyout? With Baylor struggling against UCF, Strong may become the fan favorite amongst Texas fans.

It really doesn't matter....my personnel choice would be since with UofL...I donut it would happen but they would need to make the call to Bowling Green, Kentucky and bring Petrino back....if that doesn't work or they can't get past the loyalty issue make an offer that Kirby Smart can't refuse. The other person of interest would be Jim McElwaine...former Offensive Coordinator at Bama...got a horrid Colorado State Bowl eligible and has been at Louisville as an OC and has a previous relationship with Jurich.

Yeah...would not mind that at all...just bring a good defensive coordinator and a strong recruiting staff...

So Charlie lost to a team that was 3 points away from being undefeated and won by double digits over the Big XII Champions in the Fiesta Bowl....ok...07-coffee3

If Charlie leaves I have nothing but the highest respect for what He's accomplished here and hope Our Florida recruiting continues at a similar pace with the next coach. Vance Bedford would be a pretty decent choice also. Great Defense Coordinator and great personality to boot.

Understand what you're saying....but step up in overall competition...the more I think about it is Bob Petrino....what other coach can UofL get that has coached 2 BCS Bowl Games with different schools-(Louisville and Arkansas) in the past 8 Years...just make sure you hire a strong recruiting staff with ties to Florida and a very good DC...Maybe convince Bedford or Brian Jean-Marie to stay on the staff.

That could very well be the case as Charlie would already have a very knowledgeable staff at Texas that always brings in Top 5 star recruits. They may stay on and Petrino could keep most of Our current staff in place. Petrino left for the NFL and Not another School. And I've Never heard Him Badmouth the Louisville program or Tom Jurich. He could hold on to most of Our recruits and current players. I like Him but TJ is the one He has to sell.

I have no issue at all if Strong leaves and they bring back Petrino...In that case Petrino would have the final say on the staff but I would hope if Strong leaves and he doesn't take the staff he would talk to those on the Defensive side to stay...that Defense was absolutely nasty this season...one of the best in the country.

Recipe for disaster

Any new coach-(if Strong leaves) has to have freedom to hire whom he wants...would just want to make sure if a (Petrino is hired) it would have just as strong a defensive staff and strong Florida recruiting ties...the latest from Chip Brown and Orangebloods:

A Baylor source said Wednesday night Texas had not yet reached out for permission. That source also said Briles expressed to Baylor officials "you have nothing to worry about" regarding Texas after an upset loss to Central Florida in the Fiesta Bowl Wednesday night.

A source close to the Texas search said Briles presents an intriguing option because it's believed Briles would take the Texas job; has established relationships with Texas high school coaches; has evaluated talent and developed it well in turning Baylor around; and received an endorsement from UT lettermen who met with Patterson before the Alamo Bowl.

The source also said hiring Briles would, of course, weaken Baylor - an emerging power in the Big 12. The Bears, who defeated Texas for the Big 12 title on Dec. 7 and for the third time in four years, were beaten by 17-point underdog Central Florida, 52-42, Wednesday night in the Fiesta Bowl. Baylor was flagged 17 times for 135 yards.

Patterson has already interviewed Louisville's Charlie Strong and Vanderbilt's James Franklin according to a high-level source close to the situation. OB reported the Strong interview on Tuesday, and the Austin American-Statesman reported Wednesday that Patterson had talked to Strong.

A source close to the situation on Tuesday told Orangebloods Patterson has also expressed an interest in Michigan State's Mark Dantonio because Dantonio has a reputation for strong character (suspending star linebacker Max Bullough for Wednesday's Rose Bowl victory over Stanford only added to that), and his teams are tough.
