The OOC season has not been kind to the SBC this year in basketball.

The Cajuns at the Red Wolves this year drew 767,000 on ESPN2. Looking only at games vs. G5 schools, the most watched CUSA game was the title game drawing 449,000 viewers to ESPN2. The second most watched was MTSU at BYU with 313,000 viewers on ESPNU. More people watched AState vs. Louisiana than the two most watched CUSA G5 games combined.
The FS1 CUSA games drew an average of 116,670 viewers, Troy at AState drew 137,000 viewers on ESPNU and that was the least watched TV game for AState over the past two years. Throw out the FS1 games involving teams leaving for the AAC and CUSA games on FS1 averaged 90,500 viewers.
Found an error on my spread sheet. Mis-coded USM vs. Boise State. That was the second most watched C-USA game against a G5 with 329,000 viewers. It was the second least watched Boise game beating Boise vs. New Mexico.

10 G5 vs. G5 games drew more than one million viewers (excluding games with future P5 Louisville and Rutgers) and two of those drew more than 2 million viewers. Another six drew three-quarters of a million to just under one million. That's out of 64 national telecasts and 35 of those below 750,000 viewers were on ESPNU, ESPNnews, and FS1

It also matters that Fox Sports 1 is still relatively new, and as such folks haven't started switching over. Hell, every time I ACTIVELY want to watch that channel I have to look up the number. Not so with ESPN.
Here's the thing though. Right now they are getting about $1 million per team and while the money is nothing to sneeze at you have to wonder what you are getting in terms of exposure. The average CUSA game on FS1 drew an audience of 116,670 viewers, the least watched AState game the past two years was on ESPNU and drew 130,000 viewers, take out the games that involved ECU, Tulsa and Tulane and the average fell to 90,500 almost a 25% decrease.
Now Fox and CBSS may be willing to pay a premium just in order to have something to fill in the gaps but 75% of those FS1 games were one weeknights with less competition. On four of those weeknights they went head-to-head against Sun Belt or MAC and three times CUSA drew a smaller audience. While it is easy to say that's because FS1 isn't as established when they had name teams going head-to-head with other name teams they were pretty competitive.
