I looked at all the old helmets, many,of them really awful, and none worth repeating, so I wonder WTF were you or anyone else wanting that lead to the end of the OERin any way.

The all blue Neely helmets looked good.

I also like the '76 helmets, and think that an updated version with the Rice script in Old English would look fantastic. But I know others here disagree with me.

I'd like to see continuity. Blue with the OER works well. And that is a stark comparison to the 6 different helmet designs I wore (plus intro of another I didn't wear) in 5 years at Rice...

I like the OER with Blue. Best helmets we've had since I've been following Rice Football. I don't mind doing something different for a bowl game or big event, however.

Gray helmets with a Blue OER would be nice for alternates.

White is not one of our colors. Don't know why it seems to take such a prominent role on our uniforms.

because 'away' jerseys have to be predominantly white as I understand it.

Traditionally, yes. But it is not a rule: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_b...ing-r.html

Gray is sufficiently light that it would be contrasting enough in almost all cases.

RE: my new plight.....rice helmets
our grey is supposed to be fairly dark... sufficient, perhaps... but not silver or as light as it has sometimes been and I think that is the issue about making it light enough to be 'home'.

I'd like more grey in the uniforms, and grey pants and Jersey with a matte grey helmet MIGHT be 'cool'

I'd certainly take that to the NCAA and see what they thought for 'away'... though I know players USED to LOVE wearing white.

Personal tastes are, well, personal and nontransferable. I hated our Liberty Bowl helmets but by the end of the game I was happy we wore them because no one will recognize us when we return to the regular helmets. Nice disguise and we really needed one. For some reason these helmets reminded me of finger painting.

Haha, +1. We must have had leftover finger paint from our offensive playbook for that game.

RE: my new plight.....rice helmets
i dont want to repeat any of them, except the bowl helmet(i liked it). i just want to collect the old helmets. just something i'd like to do if i can find them or if anyone has one or some please contact me.

the OER is cool and all...i don't hate it, but it doesn't get me geeked either. i really liked the helmets. we never had grey while i was there, except for in the wings. grey is an ugly color on jerseys. i don't like it when ohio st wheres their grey and red. just very unappealing to me. the solid white with the blue wings is pretty slick.

this is just my opinion. its what i like and its my eye that it is appealing to...lol....so again if anyone has any of the old helmets, vintage hit me up i'd love to take them off your hands...appreciate it folks.
