RE: Middle Tennessee Apology
KUDO's to MT for addressing this quite quickly.

Sometimes a national TV audience makes a few want to become U of Miami "we got an attitude" 2.0.

There were some things happening before a couple of our Mean Green kick-offs to UNLV after we had just scored TD's that I know a few of our fans were curious about, too. I know much has to do with celebrating but hot dog'ing and celebrating sometimes has a fine line.

Wow that is terrible. Eye gouging? Apology was nice but that definitely makes me uneasy.

RE: Middle Tennessee Apology
Navy was doing the same thing. Chop blocks, eye gouging, spitting in our faces, etc. The cameras caught us (which is the only thing that matters), we apologized, whatever. Get over it.

Roderic Blunt got called the N word by two drunk middle aged white dudes, they spit in his face, threw beer bottles at him, etc, and he didn't beat them into the pavement like he should have. That just goes to show you how much self control he has. It's not like he did this for no reason. We had one unsportsmanlike conduct penalty all year before the bowl game. Navy was just as chippy, but you aren't going to win an argument against Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl. You can't beat that story.

We got treated like the red headed step child all weekend, which isn't that surprising. Mispronouncing our school name (partially on purpose) and making a joke out of it during the banquet dinner for players, coaches, families. Navy's coach came and apologized to Coach Stock afterwards.

I'm over it. I don't ever want to be on the same field as Navy ever again.

The life of a mid major. If it makes you feel any better, one nut job writer for the Daily Caller (whatever that is) hates FAU so much, he created a "Worst School in America" blog where he blows up every small FAU matter onto the national stage. Yahoo and MSN picked up a couple of his biased, one sided stories earlier this year.
So it could be worse.

I find all the "get over it, move on" comments pretty rude. Its current, discussion worthy, and relevant. MTSU fans would probably want to talk about it if it was UT. So please stop them or dont open the thread.

. . . and it was against navy. taking a cheap shot at one of the service academies is the equivalent of taking a cheap shot at every one of us.

it's utterly admirable that the vast majority of the middle fans admit their transgression. the guys that want to equivocate are just shameful.

this is how reputations for being dirty are created. this is it. right here. you don't need to be passive-aggressive, and you don't need to be resentful because you somehow got falsely accused.

you got justifiably nailed. your national reputation depends on how you handle this, and so far, your fan base isn't exactly reassuring anyone.

Yep. I'm done with this thread.

We need to crucify any player that has ever received a personal foul in a game against a service academy. Send them to Gitmo. I think MT's Defense is on the list of Terrorist Organizations as well. I think we're feeding Iran military intelligence, and MT's entire campus hates Israel. Give it a rest. It was a football player doing something stupid and getting caught. Doesn't matter that it was against Navy when it comes down to how he represented MT. He apologized.

I can actually forgive the player. what I can't forgive is a program that doesn't realize the significance of their bowl game, and coach their players accordingly.

jd....if you really want to imagine how hypocritical middle fans can be ask them how they would react if you switched them with western and andrew jackson had been the culprit.

there would be no 'lets move on' statements coming out of the boro.

it would be brought up every time western suited up for a future game.

fortunately for middle fans the average american has an attention span of a honey badger with a meth addiction. it'll be forgotten by joe public.

their problem is it won't be forgotten by conference mates who will bring it up in message board smack. it couldn't happen to a nicer fan base.

Ill do my best to repair my national reputation, and I'll tell my fan base to admit their wrongdoing and accept the consequences. But even though people will demand to hear what the consequences are, I won't tell because secretly there are none!

RE: Middle Tennessee Apology
The problem with these two threads on this is something I have already pointed out. The outrage over this is worse than four Vandy players gang raping a girl in Nashville. Case in point there have been two letters to the editor written and published in the Tennessean because of R. Blunt. Not one regarding the rapes. The priorities and perspectives of people in this country are so far out of wack this - anectdotely - is just another example that scares the crap out of me to raise my two kids in such a distorted society.

Does any of that make what happened ok? Certainly not. And I'm pretty sure that every MT fan on this board and others have proclaimed that what happened is simply wrong and unacceptable. Yet, many of you on this board who clearly are the most angelic of this country's society and never made a mistake are surely eligible to judge this man as the worst of all thugs in the world and relegate an entire fan base because in your infinite wisdom and holiness you don't like what happened. Apologies and admission of wrongdoing be damned. None of that is good enough for some of you I see.

R. Blunt is also being crucified publicly and perhaps rightfully so. Perhaps its going a little too far at this point? All of you have already decided, but know this. R. Blunt is a guy that in five years on MT's campus has never gotten in trouble, never been arrested, never suspended. Never even had an unsportsmanlike penalty in his four years playing linebacker but in the heat of the battle after having someone spit in his face lashes out - again in the midst of what was already very heated game. Yet once again in this uber rush by this society to judge and believe it is the ultimate jury regardless if all of the facts are at hand or not, there is no discussion as Beed suggests. No sir, there isn't a discussion. It's more like an online version of lynching, because you have decided that both Blunt and the entire MT community are the dregs of this society. That's clear by the posts on this board, so don't back down now. Apparently, being caught up in the heat of the moment, making a mistake, and then owning up to it like a man (when he knows he wasn't the only one in the wrong) followed by both personal and public apologies is not good enough for some of you. And if you fit into that camp I feel sorry for you. I'll say a prayer for you.

i just want to know if middle fans have ever been guilty of this type of 'lynching' that you describe?

what about YOU. have you ever brought up western and goats? something that happened 10-12 years ago....NOT by football player.....by that other group of good for nothings.....frat-boys.

yet you can't read a middle-western thread where one of your fans doesn't bring it up.

it doesn't feel good when the shoe is on the other foot, does it? have YOU ever trashed troy for thug behaviour back in your sunbelt days?

you may be that lone middle fan that never did that but i'll have to take your word for it. one of your middle posters wished me to die in a car wreck. which is worse? people questioning something they saw happen or hoping someone dies? let him know i'm still kicking.

i don't blame you for getting tired of hearing it. your best bet would be to take some time away from boards. it'll pass amigo. nobody is talking about it on sec or big10 boards. just on boards middle is associated with.

The goat thing is used as a joke and good natured rivalry ribbing. It's funny. What we're seeing here with this is a serious attack on the character of the program and our institution. There is nothing funny about this. There is a big, big difference and if you don't get that you're more of idiot than even I gave you credit for. Either that or your attempts to undermine this situation to benefit yourself is, well, let's just its more telling about you than a mistake made by a football player who mans up to it and apologizes.

oh....i see....it's a joke when middle says something about western that i consider an attack on the institution. it's not funny to me. it makes me believe all the homo-erotic stories i've heard about fraternities but i don't see anything funny about it.

if you don't understand that is as much an attack on western then you're a bigger idiot that automatickyle who wished me dead.

in your world it's just joking if middle directs it at someone else. you didn't answer my question if you or middle folks piled on troy calling them 'thug u' back in the day. was that an attack on them?

in my opinion every team has players like blunt. they're all one pissed off episode from choking their girlfriend for weed money. oops.

football is a violent sport played by borderline violent people. we want them to be violent and blow people up but stop on a dime when a whistle blows and be good christians between snaps of the ball. most humans aren't made that way.

your guy lost it. he's not the first eye-gouger and won't be the last. he just got caught in living color.

you guys won't win this p.r. battle. just let it drop and time will take care of it.

It's funny. You only get this long enough to pile on to what happened with us but yet are not capable of "getting it" in just how different those situations are and why. For starters your frat incident didn't involve the football program. Any analogy should end right there. And I didn't realize you were so sensitive. Frats doing stupid stuff is the norm. Hell, half the frats at MT have been kicked off campus.

No one is trying to win a PR battle here. We're just not going to sit quietly in the corner and allow losers like you try to use this as an opportunity to smear the entire program.
