Don't take your loved ones for granted
Originally I was planning on watching Rice's bowl game at a friend's house surrounded by fellow owls and friends. However that plan has been dashed to the fact that my father is currently very ill and in the icu. So when you watch the game today and ring in the new year, hold your friends and family close and don't take them for granted.

A good reminder. Sorry to hear this news, Chef. Here's hoping for the best for you and yours.

Manny - best wishes for your father. For your sake and his, I hope he pulls through, and sports fandom becomes trivial in perspective.

Chief, your words are so true. I lost my 50 year old sister on Christmas Eve morning unexpectedly. She left a husband and 3 teenagers behind. Treasure every moment. I will pray for your Dad.

RE: Don't take your loved ones for granted
Another elder at the church asked me how my mother was doing and I said she was not going to get any better (not life threatening but mobility and cognition issues). Her mother had died suddenly on November 11 so she said treasure them when they are still with you. I watched the game on television at my parent's house while I washed their laundry. Mother paid some attention to the game but not all that much. She was in the Class of 1952 at Rice.

Just wantedto give an update. My dad is doing slightly better. He is not out of the woods, but is responding positively to treatment. We are cautiously optimistic and we hope he is heading in the right direction. Thanks for all your concerns and prayers as we still need them. Bless you all.

Glad to hear.

A couple days before the game we had a slight scare with our 2-year-old, which thankfully turned out to be not a big deal, but was still a moment for perspective.
