WMU only lost to #24 Missouri (11-1) by 6 at Missouri. WMU will be a tough test for our Rockets.

Headline in the local
"No. 16 Kansas uses bulk to defeat Toledo 93-83"
Did Kansas seem bulky to anyone?

I like the way several of them are talking about Toledo being a tough draw for someone in a game with upset written all over it come Tournament time.
I wish I could be as confident as some of the Kansas fans that Toledo will make the tournament. Life in the MAC is so uncertain.

Gotta learn from this: Gotta defend better and rebound better. Also need to remember, The Rockets played against potentially 3 future NBA players tonight. We have zero NBA players in the MAC.
It's on to playing AT Western....Huge game to start MAC play. Just win baby. Go Rockets!!!!!!!

they only lost by ten, the coach is doing something right. it proves they can hang with the big teams.

Before you read about UT you'll have to get past a comment about the Southern-Champion Baptist fiasco that I mentioned in the "UT opponents" thread, but some nice words from Matt Norlander of cbssports.com about the Rockets.

Very proud of the way the Rockets played tonight, they hung tough and never gave up. Would have loved to see them get more rebounds, but if Toledo puts forth this kind of effort every night, it should be a very successful MAC campaign.
Toledo should be getting some votes here.

From my perspective Toledo played about as well as they can. Hard to see how they could shoot much better than they did against big defenders. Still lost by 10. So if you look at that game score from an outsider perspective, Kansas won the game fairly comfortably. Not sure that voters will reward Toledo for the loss.
Case in point. Lady Rockets had a similarly weak schedule last year. Lady Rockets lost to Dayton, at Dayton, by three points early in the season. Dayton was ranked about where Kansas is this year. Lady Rockets went on a 26-1 run after that and didn't begin to get a serious number of votes until near the end of that run. So I predict that voters will see this as a loss period. They will conclude that it validates Kansas and also validates that Toledo is mid major talent wise and not a ranked team. They will want to reward teams with 2-3 losses against a big time schedule.
Hope I am wrong.

UT Kansas coverage
That loss the women had to dayton last year was a gag job. Were in control most of the way and completely collapsed down the stretch.

Very proud of the Rockets' effort last night. Kansas had a couple opportunities to blow the game open--I'm talking 30 point lead potential--but Toledo wouldn't go away. at about the 6 minute mark or so, we had it down to 10 and made 3 defensive stops in a row, but came up empty each time we had the ball afterwards...think about what could have happened if we had gotten the lead down to 5 or 6? And that alone--the fact that we were still very much in the game that late--was enough to make me feel proud. But it was a loss, and I don't think our resume of wins is strong enough to see us get many votes (in fact, imo we'll likely lose votes since we're no longer undefeated).
We won't see another team in the MAC that can put 5 players on the court at one time as good as Kansas (were that many of them really freshmen? wow...), but there are some good teams in the MAC that will need to be dealt with...Ohio, Buffalo, Akron, Western Michigan, even Eastern and Kent State...I don't think anyone, including us, is gonna go 18-0 in the MAC this season.

I'm not so sure about Akron. They are NOT very good this year.

OU, Kent State, and Western Michigan will be the stiffest competition. Akron lost a lot from last year and are rebuilding this year.

Akron has been inconsistent but Treadwell is a guy who can put up big numbers on any given night and OU is good as well, playing OSU about as well as we played KU.

Great effort last night by the Rockets. I agree, aside from a few missed free throws, they couldn't have played much better against a starting 5, 4 of which were McDonald All Americans, and Kansas' center was an incredible athlete. The Rockets never quit and showed no fear in one of the toughest venues in all of college basketball.

Why does every picture ever posted of Coach K on the sidelines look as if he's in need of exorcism?

I have mixed feelings about the game last night. I was proud of the effort and it was a moral victory to stay reasonably competitive with Kansas at their place, but a win would have put this program in the national spotlight. I want this team to get better and then do some damage in the March tournament.

I think its difficult to evaluate the significance of the Rocket performance last night because its difficult to determine how good the Kansas team is. This is probably not a national championship potential Kansas team. They won the game primarily on the basis of 3 point shooting and because they exposed the Rocket's lack of a formidable post defense.
Four of the top six players in minutes played are freshmen. They already have three loses. Lets see where Kansas is at the end of the season and then we can more accurately gauge the performance by the Rockets.

I think we can pretty accurately gauge the performance by the Rockets just by looking at the personnel on the two teams. Kansas has some of the top recruits in the nation, as well as a host of other top-tier players, several of whom are likely to play in the NBA. Toledo just has your run of the mill college basketball players who weren't heavily recruited by the top programs in the country. Yet we STILL hung with them and put some fear in the coach, players, and Kansas fans. I still say they fully expected to humiliate Toledo. Didn't happen, and all because of great coaching, great chemistry, and a great work ethic.

I meant to come over and say this sooner, but great game. I'm looking forward to the two (hopefully 3) Ohio/Toledo games this year.
