Typical Cleveland. You get one shot and if you don't set the world on fire you are gone. Must be nice to be in a position to do that. I guess they make their profit on volume.

It's like we say here, if the next guy is great, no one will care about the previous coach.

Browns management was pretty obvious in stating they didn't get the man they wanted last year but if they think this is going to make them a better franchise, their heads are way up their colons. Chud succeeded everywhere he went and he would have succeeded there. There's already reports of player grumbling over the decision.

Do the Lions need a new coach yet?

Well, I for one, am pissed (I'm a Central Catholic alum). You can't keep firing coaches after 1 season and expect to build a winning team. Being a Cleveland Browns fan is very frustrating. I think Chud could have done better with more time and maybe a damn quarterback. Cleveland has fired way too many coaches for any type of consistency. It's just sad.

Football Scoop is reporting, per a source, that Jim Schwartz is now the former coach of the Lions.

I'm not a Browns fan, but one season in Cleveland!? Seems hardly fair for a guy who landed his dream job and showed enthusiasm coaching a team with sparse talent.

RE: OT: Browns Fire Toledo Native Chudzinski After One Season
The Browns were a mess this year, even for Cleveland, and there's a ton of blame to go around.

On-field coaching was questionable at best. Plays rarely got in from the sideline on time. Numerous problems with personnel groupings throughout the year. These things didn't improve. Telling the media that you are going to start Weedon at the beginning of the year just because you haven't seen him play yet was a huge red flag that Chud was in over his head. With two of the most heralded coordinators in the league, there should have been better Sunday coaching, but it sometimes looked like they were both rookies ... gotta think the head coach had something to do with that.

But I think the biggest problem lies with the player selection. Draft was a bust. Mingo, for all his physical talents, was lost on any play he wasn't supposed to speed rush the QB. He may still develop with coaching and mentorship, but was a major disappointment this season. The rest of the draft sucked. Heck they even released one of their draft choices 'cause he turned out to be not as good as one of their free agent signings - so much for scouting. And this after Banner publicly ridiculed the previous staff for their supposedly terrible player selection.

They did nothing in the off-season to give Haden any help at the other corner. Skrine can't really cover anybody and was exposed week after week. The safety spot next to Ward was a revolving door all season. Couldn't settle on a kicker or punter signed until about 5 minutes before opening kickoff. Did nothing to help improve the O-line which was one of the major issues with the offense as there was little to no run-blocking all season. Kruger seemed average at LB much of the time, not the game-changing player he was sold as. Running back? - how laughable. Seems to me all that mess was the fault of Lombardi and Banner, although I'm sure Chud contributed to that as well.

Also, it isn't clear to me that Haslam has a clue what it takes to put a winner on the field. Probably not as clueless as Snyder in DC, but it remains to be seen if he has what it takes to be an owner.

Of all that, Chud was just the easiest one to lay the blame on.

Probably how it came down in the end.
