Odd how even a publication that has NOTHING to do with Toledo, knows when and how to hype a game.

The writer is a not so long ago Michigan grad. Wonder if that's her familiarity with the program?

Two positive Toledo-related articles in The NY Times in the last 5 days......That's more positive articles the bland, formally known as the Toledo blade, wrote all of 2013.

Yes but remember the Blade is "one of America's great newspapers"---maybe they have "bigger fish to fry" than the New York Times.

I love the national attention, but I fear TK will be gone next year.

The difference in tone, regarding the relationship between Coach K and Pierson as described in the NY Times and USA Today articles relative to Ryan's in the local, it's a bit startling. Maybe Ryan's was more accurate or maybe I read (into) it wrong but I took Ryan's to be describing a relationship almost confrontational whereas the other articles describe a high level of mutual respect, cooperation and caring, getting through difficulties together.

"There were 14 players on the roster with eligibility remaining when Cross resigned; none made it to Kowalczyk’s second season."

Holy crap!!

I think this was also the first time Coach K addressed that. I have been a big detractor on the issue of retention but I like his response here and I think in hindsight (as I've posted before) I don't think those players were left to their own devices or they wouldn't have generally landed into decent to very nice places to play and educate. I imagine O'Brien and Coach K had something to do with that also. At least, I like to imagine it.
