That's going to be hard to do without Maryland but let's to pre and post 1993 so FSU is included.

UVA
UNC
Duke
NCST
Wake
Clemson
GT

FSU
Miami
VT
BC
Cuse
Pitt
Louisville

I could get over being in an almost entirely north division, if FSU and Miami were in VT's division too.

I think there are two requirements for realignment:

1. Split Duke and Wake Forest so they won't drag everybody's RPI.
2. Clemson and Florida State wants to be together.

So my proposal is:

1. Lousiville, Miami, Virginia Tech, BC, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Duke.

2. Florida State, Clemson, Georgia Tech, UNC, Virginia, Wake Forest.

I like our chance to be the division champion then battle Florida State/Clemson in title game. Besides Duke and Wake Forest, everybody has the potential to get big but right now the power ratings should be

1. Florida State
2. Louisville
3. Clemson
4. Miami
5. Virginia Tech
6. Georgia Tech
7. Most of the schools
...
14. Wake Forest

Schools in the middle are too close to call. So assume that they are all tied in 7, including Duke but it could be one year wonder for them.

I see you have paid virtually no attention to actual ACC football for at least the past decade.

You're not going to get 5 A-division schools to agree not to have a Florida school on the schedule every year. But if they did and Miami were VT's cross over, then sure.

Cross-overs
VT-Miami
UNC-FSU
UVA-GT
NCST-Clemson
Louisville-Pitt
Wake-BC
Duke-Cuse

From a rivalry stand point I like it. It is an Inner and Outer division type of conference but all the NC rival schools would play and Virginia schools would play the Carolina schools, would have nice rivalries out of that. Division B wouldn't like the travel but maybe a subsidy for division B for travel?

Boston College
Syracuse
Pitt
Virginia Tech
Virginia (better geography fit than Georgia Tech)
Louisville
Miami

Things to consider: SU-BC, UNC-Duke, Wake-NCSU, UVA-VT, and Pitt-Miami are all season ending games. Those match-ups must exist within the same division. The Florida schools will probably need to be split. Do not make suggestions of adding VaTech in a north division just because they played in the Big East (that was their only option in 90/91); VaTech tried to get into the ACC for years to play with southern schools.

It escapes me why any UofL fan would love the idea of being in the same division with BC, Pitt, and Cuse in football. Sounds like a lateral move from the Big East to me. We are a southern school that only recruits the south. I can't name a single current player on our roster off the top of my head that is from any of those states. Wouldn't be the end of the world, but some Cards fans on here act like we'd be losing great football rivalries with Cuse and Pitt.

There is no reason to act as though Louisville is too good for SU and Pitt and BC, especially when you consider Louisvilles record against SU and Pitt during Louisvilles BE years, Pitt 4-4 and 5-3 against SU during its worst 5 year stretch in its history. Louisville never played in the BE while BC was there, but I think their record against BC would be similar or worse, as BC was regularly winning 9-11 games a season in the Acc during Louisville's years in the BE. And Card fans were beyond excited to play SU and Pitt when The Ville was first invited to the BE.

I see Pitt and Syracuse are our new rivalry games since Memphis and Cincinnati are gone. And sometimes long distance relationship works, especially Louisville is in the middle of the south and the north so we can go either way.

The truth is that these games will be more manageable than facing Clemson and Florida State. So I prefer putting Florida State and Clemson on the other side and facing Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Miami in our division.

Louisville recruits south (FL specifically) but has the most history with the northern schools among ACC opponents. UofL is .500 all-time against the northern trio.

3-3 vs BC
6-6 vs Syracuse
8-8 vs Pitt

Here's how I see it: UL has just as much, if not more history with schools like FSU, GT, and VT than it does with SU and Pitt. UL also has more in common with many other ACC schools than SU and Pitt. Beyond that, UL might be closer to Pitt than any other ACC school, but it is not especially geographically close to Syracuse. Since most good football recruits come from down south (or at least more than up north), I don't think that there's any shame in a UL fan saying that he has no special interest in playing SU and Pitt and would rather play southern teams for recruiting purposes. I don't think that it was a slam against either SU or Pitt. He's probably right, and I mostly feel the same way towards UL. I have nothing against them. I'm just neutral towards them, whereas I'm not neutral towards other schools in the ACC. For instance, UVA is objectively a worse program, but I think that SU has more in common with UVA and we have more fans/alums in the DMV area. I also think that SU would have more success recruiting the tidewater area than Kentucky/Ohio in the long run (although maybe not with our current coaching staff). Therefore I would rather play them than UL, even though UL has a stronger program. The same is true with a number of other schools.

Wasn't dissing Cuse, Pitt, or BC. Just think our program can continue its upward trajectory and grow its fan base much easier in the south. We're trying to sell our football product in the same state as an SEC program, so it makes cultural sense that I want to play teams in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina. I always will enjoy playing Cuse, BC, and Pitt, but having all 3 in our division would not be my "best case scenario." That's all I'm saying...

P.S.- For what it's worth, I considered Cuse our best basketball rival in the old Big East. You all are going to piss off a lot of Duke and UNC fans soon after some epic battles! 03-wink

This is the root of the issue...a true north/south alignment will not work in football. We need a mix of north/middle/south schools in each division.

I see no difference in what Slater was saying than what your president was saying. It's just like the problem Clemson and FSU have with being stuck with Syracuse and BC in the Atlantic.....there simply aren't enough recruits, and especially elite level recruits, north of PA to make it worth our while.
