toledo is in VERY good company. can you imagine what it would do for UT if they crush kansas?

and further more be one of the last 2-3 undefeated teams in the country?

well, not too hard to prognosticate some effects of that.

A top 25 ranking.

Lose the coach.

Still need to win the MACC to get a bid because well, we're in the MAC and we don't make money for anyone.

I really hope everyone is being realistic about this game. This is this team's first experience playing in front of a large crowd on someone else's court. Beating Kansas would be great, but realistically can The Rockets compete and make this a game where Kansas is still trying to put The Rockets away late in the game. I can't wait to see where this team is at after Monday's game. Go Rockets!!!!!!!!!

well, in terms of at-large, ut is sitting pretty good. if they can continue winning at a similar pace a loss to kansas won't necessarily hurt. they key is what type of loss. can ut compete at kansas. a 3 6 5 point loss would show we are legit. the field is expanded. the mac is ranked higher than usual in non conf play. the worst we could do non conf is 12-1 w the loss at one of the toughest places to win in america..

personally, i think we will play well. we are a team and may be the better team at this time. they will have size, strength and speed advantages at some positions. they will make big time plays. can our key guys stay out of foul trouble? do win make free throws. how crisp is the ballhandling. can we get on a roll on defense? we have been good in many of these things against average comp. how well do we do them against top notch comp?

Gotta agree with east here. I recall Akron going 27-4 or something and not getting at large bid due to their weak schedule. A close loss to Kansas is a loss. No one cares that we played well when they pick at larges. If we lose five in cnference play we HAVE to win the MACC or we're NIT bound.

I agree with your post except for this sentence. Maybe sitting pretty good to be a bubble team that will ultimately be passed over for some 16-14 team from a major power conference.

Last year I looked invitations for the previous 2 years and out of the 34 at-large invitations each year something like 2 (maybe 3 one year) went to the bottom 21 conferences with the other 32 at-large bids going to the "major" (top 10) conferences. I also recall that with one exception the "mid-major" at-large teams selected had a conference representative on the selection committee.

Remember in 97 when UT started 10-0 including the win over Ohio State (who ended up in the NCAA final four that year) UT lost to OU in the MAC tourney and went to the NIT.

It is still way too early to talk about "at-large" bids but until proven otherwise I am going to believe that if you are in the MAC (men or women BB) you have to win the MAC tournament in order to get an invitation to the NCAA BB Tournament. Just like football the power elites have their own club and the mid-majors are not welcome (except for a token representation to ward off potential monopoly lawsuits).

IMHO, Toledo needs to beat Kansas to receive an at large bid. Toledo's current RPI is anywhere from 41-45, depending on which website you look at. There are 21 conference leaders with an RPI worse that UT, you take those teams, plus the 40 or so currently ahead of the Rockets in the RPI and that would put Toledo squarely on the bubble today. Toledo's RPI will continue to slide once they get into conference play. If UT doesn't win at Kansas, they would practically have to run the table in conference play to receive at large consideration.

With regards to the Kansas game, I am hoping the Rockets can keep it close/respectable. Need Rian to have a good game, he seems to struggle against larger teams, by getting his shots blocked. Need Boothe to stay on the floor and out of foul trouble. Need Juice to continue to take care of the ball. Have to make foul shots.

I have no doubt that our BASKETBALL Rockets will play to win.

The way I see the streak, though, is this. Coach K has brought our program back to where it should be, and that is, winning the games we should be winning. That doesn't make us world beaters. You know, there was once a day when we were typically winning all of these early non-con games. (OK, sure, bar a couple once in a while.)

Boston College--now maybe they suck this year, I don't know. But, that is a higher profile institution and a notable win. The rest of those--those are teams we ought to be beating every year anyway.

Kansas--Clearly an elite program in NCAA basketball, another whole level of athleticism. I know the basketball Rockets will play a hard, honest game, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Win or lose I'm very happy to know that our program is back where it ought to be. I hope Coach K sticks around and takes it even further.
