Liberty vs. Appy and Ga St.
Liberty recently released a few out of conference games that are scheduled for the next few years that pertain to the SBC. Next year we travel to Boone to take on Appy St. This should be a really good match up. Appy St. struggled this year, but I've read most of the fr. class was redshirted so I expect them to be much better next year. In 2015 Liberty will travel to Atlanta to take on Ga. St. I know Panama is just sick with this news and will be outside the stadium boycotting Liberty. I'm anxious to get back to Atlanta. We've also got games scheduled against Va. Tech, WV, and UVA in the next few years. Liberty posters have been quiet on this board after the backlash of a few months ago, but many of us still read the board often.

Peace.

Good FCS opponent for App.

The purpose of these games is to ensure we have six home games and we should sign one that travels.

I'd like to see us schedule Liberty, ETSU, SC State, CCU, and WCU on a rotational basis.

That conversation got ugly quickly on this board so that's not the intend of this thread. We need to win at the FCS level before thinking of jumping to FBS. This year we were up by two scores with 5 minutes to go at ODU and choked. We lost a heartbreaking game at Richmond and then lost to Coastal Carolina after leading by something like 18 in the second half.

Liberty is toxic. Good luck to the fans, but I'm not expecting any conference to welcome them.

No offense as you seem to be a nice guy but I feel that app has you as an almost certain W now I was shocked about this years result for us until I looked at the reasons but if we can't beat y'all then next year will be really rough, having said that I hope it's competitive for a while and wish liberty good luck in facing us.

A move to FBS for Liberty or any team really has NOTHING to do with winning at the FCS level. UNC-C (not sure of the preferred name for them) and UTSA are prime examples of that.

In my view, your university has to look at it's image and repairing that before being a serious candidate for a move up (or just wait for Benson to win his struggle and shove your university down the existing members' throats).

Panama, I know now that you have a sense of humor. Ga State can't beat Stephenson high school by 45. Unless things change drastically with Ga. State in the next couple of years it'll be a toss up. How many games did you guys win this year??

Why is Liberty toxic? Is Notre Dame toxic? Is SMU? How about TCU? Why is your disdain for Christianity not universal?

Because some misunderstood quotes by a guy long dead makes for great bar discussions. At least that is the best I can discern.

We are jazzed to schedule some more FBS games. And dare I suggest that the temperature may be thawing for some schools in regard to playing us?

panama - Let's see if you guys can ever manage to beat anyone with a pulse before thumping a legitimate FCS team by 45. Perhaps another run at Shorter would be more realistic.

Playing a program is much different than voting yes to bring that program into their conference.

Again this is about finding FCS programs that can bring a few thousand fans, Liberty, CCU, SC State, WCU, and ETSU fit that bill.

Libertygrad,

First of all we don't like being called "Appy".

Secondly, our struggles this year had little to do with most of the Freshman class being red-shirted, we have historically red-shirted a lot of Freshman.

Had mostly to do with a senior All Conference, All American, Walter Payton candidate QB who was physically unable to perform only 7 months removed from ACL surgery. Jackson threw for 3278 yards the year prior, many of them to another All American, Shawn Price - who was unfortunately dismissed from the team after a string of personal problems - which started before taking the field at Montana.

So, combine having to re-invent the offense plus lots of freshman and sophomores on defensive side of the ball and there you have it. That said we did go 3-2 from Mid-October onward.

The whole Freshman being red-shirted thing is overblown. Some people felt like some of those Freshman could have helped with the personnel issues/deficiencies and thus "remove their redshirts" was said a lot.

Good luck next Fall in Boone!
