Exactly what I meant by this team is a 5 away from being pretty decent. Hunter would probably be/is a very good 4.

Pretty good win for the Bucs. To me this game proves that smaller, quicker can beat bigger/slower if done correctly.

So when we were 0-4, who thought we be here after beating Marshall, SFA, and Valpo?!

Hunter is a great story. He is 28 or 29 years old. Not a ton of talent but plays hard every night.

Not saying it is right or should continue but we have always had undersized post players dating back to the early 80's with Andre Motley. Calvin Cannady, Winfred Reid, Rodney English, Adrian Meeks, the list goes on. ETSU post players are typically 6-4 or 6-5 and great athletes.

This ETSU team is VERY athletic and VERY aggressive. You can like the zone or not like the zone, but most of the time this team is causing a lot of havoc on defense. Give me an entire team Jalen Rileys and AJ Merriwethers and I will go to war with that -- regardless of the size disparity. Those two play with so much heart and passion and intensity.

Not me. I thought we were doomed when Murry started recruiting after everyone else was finished. Murry has really surprised me. He found a decent class. Let's see what he does during the conference season starting now.

Not me. SFA hasn't lost since they lost to us, they are 10-2 now. Good game today, I was in town for a change and got to see it live. I don't know if anyone else noticed but former Charlotte Hornet, Mugsy Bouges was at the game tonight, the HS team he coaches is in the Arby's Classic and they were sitting in the bleachers opposite of the band.

As I recall....wasn't Mugsy from the same era as Mister? I maybe thinking of Spud or that small player from NC State that Mister dominated.

So many guys came up big here, but, yeah...

Especially the second half, Hunter repeatedly came flying out of nowhere to snatch a rebound or knock away a shot. This against a team that always had 1 or 2 long 6'10" to 7'0" guys on the floor.

If he can bring that effort against Mercer/FGCU/USCU... and we can get the effort that we got from Lukas and some others - this ETSU team could win the conference.

But they will have to play with the fire and passion that they showed for about 2/3's of this game. Nothing will happen without a full out commitment from this undersized group.

They are exciting when they play like they did, though. Nasty, ballhawking defense. Best ball movement and shooting on offense that I've seen from ETSU in a long time that first half.

No one can deny 0-4 was a brutal start to the season. But when you look back on it - discounting the later blowouts by TN Tech and GA Tech - the early season losses only looked terrible in combination. Each was a winnable game that coaching seemed to undermine, especially the typical and regrettable short bench pitfall.

I still don't like Bartow, and I am happier attributing recent performances to the players foremost, but the court product has taken off. Pieces are really coming together, and I think a top 3 conference finish should be this season's new standard. Nothing less will do knowing what the Bucs squad can do right now. Great win tonight!

Close, I think Mugsy was a couple of years ahead of Mister, I think he graduated from Wake in 87 or 88.

RE: Official Game Thread: Valparaiso (W 73-62)
One of the key moments in the game - Valpo steadily chipped away at the lead in the second half, getting it down to 7 points, 60-53 with about 5:12 left. But the Bucs got stop after stop (key) until -

bang, KGG, that terrible player, nails a 3 at 3:45

another stop and

bang, Rashawn nails another 3 at about 2:57

From a 7 point lead, it's suddenly 13 points. And the momentum shifts big time.

Credit several minutes of defensive stops (from about 5:12 to about 1:35) and the big 3's from KGG and Rashawn.

I got curious and the player I was thinking about was Monte Towe from NC State. He also played in the NBA but his career was much shorter than Mister's! Mister also won head to head competition when ETSU beat the Wolfpack. This is from memory but I think ETSU took three in a row...but Mister wasn't on all those teams.

I was said he was playing like crap not that he was a terrible player, never. and up until "Bang" he hit that shot he was 3 for 10 with some of the dumbest shots I have seen since Jarvis Jones last year. Learn to read. Pretty sure I also said he played well last 3 minutes before he fouled out. Hit that shot at 3.45.. fouled out with 42 seconds left or so. Hmmmm .

KGG is one of those guys that you often say no ,no ......yes , when he shoots a 3. An enigma for sure.

KGG gets 13 points on 3-4 from 3, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 turnovers, 1 block and 2 steals. Without him we don't win.

And you're rooting for him to get injured and stay on the bench.

We kick Valpo's butt and you call it ugly.

Learn something about basketball before you bother posting.
