RE: Boise ST comparison
Biggest difference in coaching tenure..

Feel we are comparable to the 2007 Boise St team..was in a BCS bowl year before and ended up in Hawaii Bowl next year with a loss to ECU...

NIU is on the right track, need to keep coaches consistent(helps recruiting)

Not to be a downer here , but in looking at that comparison , there really isn't one. Boise State finished the season ranked in the top 15 in the Coaches Poll every one of those years you posted. Last season was the only season in our history that we finished in the top 25 Coaches Poll at the end of the season I believe.

That in itself should show you how far away we are from being compared to that program. The 2 BCS victories also distance themselves.

I honestly thought the comparison was relevant until you posted those facts and statistics. They have basically been a top 15 program through the past decade. That is incredible.

We never got to the level Boise managed. They appear to be worse now, though still reasonably good, and I expect we'll also take a step back.

I feel they need to either find someone who will stick around for a long time like Petersen, or bring in a BIG coach and shell out a bunch of money and hope it does something like Howard Schnellenberger at the U.

RE: Boise ST comparison
The main difference I see is Boise State had bigger athletes and they werent afraid to hit the JUCO ranks hard just about every year. The game against Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl? Their OL and DL didnt get pushed around that much, if not at all. They stifled Adrian Peterson. I remember a WR they had in that game Jerard Rabb or something like that. One of the top JUCO WRs. Remember that Ryan Clady kid? California recruit. CB Orlando Scandrick? California kid. Starting TB Ian Johnson? You guessed it....California. I see a trend here.....You know what? I dont care what Chris Petersen said.....aint no way that he didnt get AT LEAST 2-3 4* guys. If he didnt then he got the highest rated 3* kids that he could OR Rivals and Scout lost their minds while giving out stars. He also hit California hard and in states like California, Texas, and Florida, their 3* players are like 4* compared to what Illinois has to offer. The recruits he got built that program ALONG with the fact that the only other entertainment in the state was Idaho and Idaho State. You decide who you wanna go watch. Most people picked the 'Smurf Turf' as I would have too.
