Good list Lush
What criteria did you use to define "unsung"? It looks like you looked at:
- averaged less than double-figures scoring (points is most basketball layman's gauge for being a "star")
- defensive stalwart
- tough as nails
- most of them subs off the bench
I think Jackson of this year's team needs consideration, just for being willing to play out of position.
I would certainly put Bishop in there, as he had a great season as a shut down SF after many people (me included) figured his Bearcat days were over.
Dixon deserves a spot. He took a lot of criticism because of his inability to be consistent from the arc (although he did most other things very well).
Even though Mick's first few teams were tough to watch, how about Williamson, Warren and Larry Davis (the player, not the coach).
I threw out a lot of names on Mick's teams. If I was to widdle it down to three, let's go with Bishop, Dixon and Davis.
Back in the day, when I was there, basketball was VERY hard to watch. But, I would say, Keith Starks (undersized center held his own) and Derek McMillan (point guard for 1985 NIT team) are as good as I can think, from those 1980's outfits. Obviously, I would not consider Myron Hughes, Roger McClendon or Lou Banks "unsung".
I have no clue about any team before Yates...
