Congrats to CUSA, SBC, and AAC! Florida now #3 state in population
The U.S. Census Bureau said Florida is likely to surpass New York in population in 2014, if it hasn't already. California and Texas continue to firmly hold #1 and #2 spots.

New York is losing about 50,000 people to Florida each year, mostly retirees. New York is still growing at a rate of about 1 percent annually but Florida is growing at a 2.7% annual rate. In 2012, New York had 19.6 population and Florida had 19.3 population.

Together, Texas and Florida have about 14% of USA population.

Together, Texas, Florida, and California have about 26% of USA population.

California 12%
Texas 8.1%
Florida 6.2%

My primary interest on this Realignment Board is for the success of all NonBCS conferences.

The deck is so stacked against NonBCS conferences that I find it difficult to give BCS any compliment.

On the other hand, expanding population in the South and West is driving conference realignment, mainly the BiG as it realizes all its historical states are losing population absolutely and relatively to the West and South.

I still think the ACC should double down in Florida with UCF & USF to become the "Florida" conference.

Miami and FSU are two very powerful "no votes" against letting those two in and the academic snob schools will not allow directional schools at the bottom of the P5 rankings into their conference when survival is not at stake.

The only P5 they have a real shot at is the B12 where they only have to get past 2 egos that don't want expansion

Actually, there is an argument for the AAC doing the same thing in Florida and Texas. Add two more from each state to become more dominate in 2 of the nations 3 most populated states. Add FIU to have 3 in Florida. Do the same in Texas with Texas St and UTSA. Fill in the pattern with VCU (to offset no Navy Olympics). Add Arky St to balance the divisions for a 16 team AAC with 2 eight team divisions is complete.

West

Tulsa
SMU
Houston
Tx State
UTSA
Tulane
Arky State
Memphis

East

UConn
Temple
Cinci
Navy
ECU
UCF
USF
FIU
VCU (basketball) or UMass Olympics.

Basically the east for the most part lies in the AAC footprint and the west is similar to the old SWC footprint.

Not at the moment; however, pay attention to UNF (Jacksonville) and FGCU (Ft. Myers). They should be announcing plans for football by the end of 2015. They would be great SBC candidates.

It is bad for our beaches that we are so large now. All those retirees wearing bikinis are destroying the view.

Why SBC? They don't have any remaining Florida schools. Perhaps they should add Jacksonville St.!

Jacksonville State is in ALABAMA.

You must mean Jacksonville University. A Non-Scholarship Pioneer League school......

This stands as a reminder to never rely on Tallgrass for any respect for those pesky things referred to as "facts" ... while the BigTen footprint is losing population relative to the south and west, its obviously false to claim that all of the historical Big Ten states are losing population in an absolute sense.

And note that its not even close to being true ... of the seven states in the historical Big Ten footprint, six gained population 2000 to 2010, and one lost population.

Yeah they move here to get away from taxes, then continue to vote for the types of candidates that raise them. I wish many would just stay home.

Considering the fact that Miami has few fans in south Florida, I think the ACC should keep an eye on UCF. With 50,000 undergrads, UCF is like the equivalent of three mid-size (UVA, UNC & GT) ACC schools. Plus it's located in a city that's a popular tourist destination, has a large airport and is within a hour's reach of the beaches on both coasts. It's basically a city fans would travel to.

Three seconds until Texas A&M fans and Texas Tech fans begin trolling.
