Considering the fact that Miami has few fans in south Florida, I think the ACC should keep an eye on UCF. With 50,000 undergrads, UCF is like the equivalent of three mid-size (UVA, UNC & GT) ACC schools. Plus it's located in a city that's a popular tourist destination, has a large airport and is within a hour's reach of the beaches on both coasts. It's basically a city fans would travel to.

Miami has a lot of fans in South Florida. The majority of them cannot afford to go to the games. UM only has about 15,000 students with 10,000 undergrads. Tuition is about $42,000 a year.

All the more reason the ACC should seriously consider UCF if its football product continues to improve. Make Orlando an ACC city and bring back the Tangerine Bowl.

The bowls are a very big reason why UCF should be considered for an ACC bid, IMO.

Even though the Sun Belt does not have a school in FL several of its member schools are only a stones throw away. You do know that another name for the FL panhandle is LA (Lower Alabama).

That's is why we must keep eyes on UNF and FGCU.

I would love to see UCF move to the ACC, I don't ever see that happening though. FSU and UM will do everything they can to block that move.

One step at a time guys! UCF is well positioned to make a run at the G5 access bowl slot every year, and build from that to potential playoff contention. Do that, and the B12 may come a callin'.

Each retiree in Florida generates jobs. Most likely, the retiree will buy a condo and have subsequent need for condo staff, maintenance for building, air conditioning, swimming pool, exercise room. They will eat out and shop, generating more jobs. If the buy a single detached house, most likely it will be in a community setting with a community pool and club house, even a restaurant, and again generating jobs. Locals spend money on entertainment. Both blue collar and management jobs are generated. Not to mention construction jobs, where both blue collar and management are paid well.

Some criticize these jobs but these are jobs lost to New York and the unemployment problem is at the lower levels. There are many New Yorkers that would have loved to have these jobs.

Brilliant!

RE: Congrats to CUSA, SBC, and AAC! Florida now #3 state in population
I've never understood the population comparison on a state-by-state basis... few of the states are relatively equal in size when it comes to land area - so why is the population important head-to-head?

Just to give you an example of how stupid comparing states on population is... the entire Northeast... all the states north and east of Washington, DC (Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine) together are just slightly larger than the state of California, but only 2/3rds the size of the state of Texas. Yet, those Northeastern states have a population of roughly 62,000,000; which is a little less than double California, but more than double that of Texas and it has NYC smack in the middle of it.

So as great as it is for other state's to grow and it is, as its vital to the American economy... the chest thumping and high-fives of the beating New York seems misguided.

The small Northeastern states are home to more than a fifth of America's population - that gives that small region a lot of muscle - the sheer number of television sets in a small area makes New York the most sought after prize in sports no matter if NY is #3 or #4 in state population lists... because it's all about MARKETS and the NYC metro spreads across 4 tightly packed states and is more than double the population of next closest area in the country.

That's why in Pro Sports -- the NFL breaking its weather rule for the Superbowl and will play OUTDOORS next week at NY/NJ's Met Life Stadium and the NHL will have two outdoor hockey games at Yankee Stadium next week... then in College Sports -- the Big Ten, ACC, Big East, American have all been fighting for Northeastern tv exposure and tournament sites the past year. This is just a couple examples of why a few more people in the state of Florida means nothing when metro areas in the Northeast span states... Metro NYC (a few counties in NY, NJ, CT, and PA) has more people than the state of Florida and in less than 1/20th the size of the Sunshine state.
