Even though that may not be enough to keep a coach who a P5 conference wants it is plenty to hire a high quality head coach. The reality is at this level of pay most schools if they are successful will not have head coaches for over 5 years. Of course if they are not good they won't last 5 years.

The key as chiefsfan says is to have money to hire quality assistants, particularly coordinators. If you can pay a coordinator somewhere from $200,000 and up the chances that the head coach is successful probably go up.

Pretty much. ASU has about 1.4 million set aside for assistants in 2014, and my guess is that 60 percent plus of that will go to our defensive and offensive coordinators.

Position Coaches young in their careers are easy to find and sign at a 60K or so price. You need a lot more than that for a high quality coordinator though.

How Dennis has fallen from his glory days at Alabama and A&M.

Coach Joey Jones earns $371k. I would expect him to get a salary increase from that after this season. That is the best number I could find for him.

Do you think Jones gets to $425K?

I bet that is right in the zone.

Above 400k and under 500k.

Looks like he has already gotten pretty good money for his assistants, but a bit of a boost there would be nice too.

Larry stayed at Troy because he wants to retire within the State of Alabama retirement system.. This is not meant as a slight at Troy....who cares why he stayed? The fact is he stayed and built a nice football program

Larry stated in a interview about retirement

From Jeremy wise interview

@DEwiseTrojan: LB about his thoughts on retirement... "I want to be able to do the job, and if I’m doing the job, it makes it a little bit easier to stay." "I don’t want to hang around here too long because there’s too many good things that have been done while I was here..." "I think about retirement sometimes, but I’d like to see us get back to championship caliber and a bowl then consider those things."

Larry's last year under his current contract ends after next year.

Everyone's situation is different. Our head coach, Scott Satterfield, wanted to be head coach so much he would have probably paid us if he could. He was an App State QB. Has been his ambition for many years, and got it done at the age of 39. First year wasn't that great but it settled down and we won 3 of the last 5 games. His recruiting so far seems to be going OK. Imagine we will have to up his salary quite a bit soon.
